The main occupationof people of kuttanad is
agriculture the cultivation was taking place once in to
two or three years.they cultivating seeds nof paddy like
champaru and karuthachara,these seeds take time to
grow and harrest.

4. Today we use pesticides to avoid pests but in the earlier
day the cultivation do not use pesticides they used some
technique .one of the important technique used by the
kuttanad people is wormbasket

It means the pests gathered in the sprouted seeds are
beaten with a broom stick and gathered in a basket called
worm basket

In kuttanad a strong janmi kudian system was exisisted
.the system was based on caste system.all the janmis
adiyalar and they were known as onapanikar.
The adiyalar or the agriculture labour received paddy
and money in advance and this practice was known as
velakkadom.
