2. Definition of Green World
The word “Green” has different meanings in
different cultures . In some it symbolizes hope,
growth and environmentalism. Hence in this
case, A Green world would mean a World of
hope, healthy growth and a good environment
to be in.
3. Why do we desire for
this "Green World"?
Our current Situation
The Earth is losing its trees. For example,Ethiopia is down
to 3% forest cover. After trees are cut down, the land will
lose its fertility. Soon Biodiversity dwindles, and water
supplies dry up. The deserts spreads and more appear,
hastening climate change.
What are the options for us?
Plant trees. Lots of trees. Trees heal barren soil and increase
food crops, helping people become self-sufficient. They
remove CO2 from the air, and restore the environment for
generations to come.
4. Events that led to
deforestation
-People have been deforesting the Earth for
thousands of years
-Clear land for crops or livestock.
-Vegetation and animals(cows,chicken etc.)
-After modernisation, people also deforest for
housing and entertainment like shopping malls
-Increase of world population
5. Statistics of Deforestation
From this statistics, we can see that a large area of the
Earth is deforested and so we must save it! How? Look
at the next slide.
6. Measures to Counter
Deforestation
Nature Society Singapore
preserve and conserve natural habitats.
eg. Sungei Buloh, Chek Jawa
wildlife reserves singapore conservation fund
conserve wildlife and habitats
eg. breed critically endangered banana leaf monkeys.
