2. Why was the evaluation carried out
• At the end of every unit students have to
evaluate their own progress and development, in
the hope of improving next time.
• As teaching staff we believe in the continued
development of standards of teaching and
learning and the in the value of student voice as
part of the process.
• A2 students responded to a number of given
statements which they reacted to, physically
positioning themselves along an ‘opinion line’ as
to whether the agreed or not with the statement.
3. 1. Given that we started before the Summer break, I
feel have been given enough time in which to complete
the unit (11 weeks contact time, 6 weeks non contact
time)

16. Your comments and ideas
(and our responses)
• Lessons on specific areas of the portfolio, such as – Unions; Casting
Agencies; Cvs, prospectuses; how to write a covering letter
• By getting in professionals to talk to you, this was the opportunity for you to find out information
about all of these kinds of issues, backed up by your own research. We take on board comments
about getting professionals in earlier in the unit.
• Making you more aware of publications and websites to use in your
research
• We have considered this, but the unit is largely based on your individual ability to go
and find out for yourselves what there is out there – harder working students tend to
make the effort!
• Staff not to cover the same material
• Yes we appreciate this may have been an issue and will ensure the scheme of work
is better next time. Obviously certain areas need to be discussed again if students
are unclear about them and you wouldn’t want us to ignore that.
17. Ways in which we can improve
• Unit booklets or handouts to be created for
students to refer to.
• A more rigid scheme of work so the work each
week is not repeated or confused.
• Give you more sessions in the Study Centre.
• More individual appointments for students. This was
set up by Gareth, and not a single student booked an appointment!
• More practical tasks to help understand the unit.
Certainly we agree – we should aim to tap into different learning styles to
help understanding.
18. Practical tasks could include
• Forming a production company (or a working group) to
explore tasks such as auditions, reviewing others
CVs, Health and Safety issues, Touring considerations
etc. (Similar to how Lianne Bruce did her activity with
you)
• Being directed by Simon (similar to how Laura took you
for a dance audition)
• General auditions (rather than for a specific play)
• Visiting a theatre for a backstage tour
• Role play and Hot seating in job roles
• Members of the group conducting warm ups, vocal and
physical exercises etc.
19. Things you said you could improve on
yourselves as students
• Start the research earlier
• Use the time given to you over the summer to
collate evidence
• Set your selves specific deadlines in which to
complete the different sections of the unit
