In recent times this problem has been attacked using a growing number of diverse techniques that originated in separate research communities: from PCA and LDA to manifold and metric learning. The goal of this talk is to contrast and compare feature extraction techniques coming from different machine learning areas as well as discuss the modern challenges and open problems in feature extraction. Moreover, this talk will suggest novel solutions to some of the challenges discussed, particularly to coupled feature extraction.

Entity Resolution is the task of disambiguating manifestations of real world entities through linking and grouping and is often an essential part of the data wrangling process. There are three primary tasks involved in entity resolution: deduplication, record linkage, and canonicalization; each of which serve to improve data quality by reducing irrelevant or repeated data, joining information from disparate records, and providing a single source of information to perform analytics upon. However, due to data quality issues (misspellings or incorrect data), schema variations in different sources, or simply different representations, entity resolution is not a straightforward process and most ER techniques utilize machine learning and other stochastic approaches.

He is sharing a warning from the past and offer some suggestions and design constraints to not repeat the mistakes when it comes to building out your real-time ML capabilities.

In this talk I will introduce you to a Docker container that provides you an easy way to do distributed graph processing using Apache Spark GraphX and a Neo4j graph database. You'll learn how to analyze big data graphs that are exported from Neo4j and consequently updated from the results of a Spark GraphX analysis. The types of analysis I will be talking about are PageRank, connected components, triangle counting, and community detection. Database technologies have evolved to be able to store big data, but are largely inflexible. For complex graph data models stored in a relational database there may be tedious transformations and shuffling around of data to perform large scale analysis. Fast and scalable analysis of big data has become a critical competitive advantage for companies. There are open source tools like Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark that are providing opportunities for companies to solve these big data problems in a scalable way. In this session I will present Azure Machine Learning - a service in Microsoft Azure that anyone can use to build predictive models using the provided machine learning algorithms and deploy it as a web service. Here, I will go through various options on how to use AzureML when going beyond just finding the products in retail that are in high demand: predicting the taste and preferences of customers (old and new) and giving appropriate recommendations.

ARM engineering engages in a wide variety of engineering disciplines to produce, enable and support it’s products. From large HPC clusters that have been used in pretty much the same way for 20+ years, through weird and wacky custom pieces of hardware, to the modern infrastructure required for efficient software development. We present a novel recommendation system (RS) based on the user-generated content (UGC) contributed by TV viewers via the social networking site Twitter. In our approach, a TV show is represented by all of the tweets of its viewers who follow the show on Twitter. These tweets, in aggregate, enable us to reliably calculate the affinity between TV shows and to describe how and why certain shows are similar in terms of their audiences in a privacy friendly way.

These graphs introduce a whole collection of new performance metrics, and their complexity opens the door for a new assortment of complications to go with them. I'll mention some past work that has been done to create similar data from old pageview events. Then, I'll work through how we process these data into graph objects (avoiding some pitfalls), and mention some of the new ways of looking at web analytics implied by these objects. I'll talk about how we can take advantage of the structure of these objects to make certain algorithms more efficient. Finally, I'll cover some of the future applications we're particularly excited about!

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry.
