2. History of Casa Pia
It is a Portuguese institution founded by
Maria I and organized by Pine Manique in
1780 after the social turmoil with the effect
of the 1755 Lisbon earthquake.
5. Casa Pia is Portugal's largest
educational institution, helping children
and young people at risk of social
exclusion or without parental support
since almost 300 years.
8. From kindergarten to high school, Casa Pia
Belém has close to 500 students. I was
working in kindergarten which has 7
classes in total. My task was to assist the
teacher in the classroom where I was told
to work in various activities, to introduce
the culture and language of my own
country, and to organize activities.
9. I took part in the development of handcraft
skills such as writing, drawing and cutting.
I tried to teach English to children in a
basic way. We continued the activities
outside the school as well as in the school.
