  1. COMMUNITY KITCHEN VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITY IN ROMANIA
  2. About Us Curba de Cultură focuses on teenagers and youth development. Our mission is to use non-formal education as a complementary method to the formal educational system for young people. We want to create the premises for a better development of the young people and their more suited integration within their respective communities. We want to make young people aware that they actively belong to their local and national culture. The youth center will be the base of operations for all projects taking place in the rural community of Izvoarele village, Prahova County in Romania. The beautiful surroundings and the mountain landscape will provide an excellent environment for building trust, tolerance and understanding and will create great personal development opportunities. The hosting placement, Izvoarele, is 60 kms from Brasov, 50 kms away from Ploiesti and 110 kms away from Bucharest, the capital and the main city in Romania. The volunteers will live inside the community, which is a regular mountain community in rural Romania.
  3. Behind the project In 2019 we have started a community kitchen in the commune of Teișani, with the help of the ESC Solidarity project. Sultan's kitchen, as we have named the project, is aimed to bring together the community around everything related to food, promoting and preserving the local culinary heritage as well as introducing international food culture to our community. This activity is a continuation of the initial project through which we noticed that food culture plays a significant role in the life of locals and in their daily interactions. With the help of international volunteers we would like to take this one step further and to build a community around it, to bring together generations, food recipes and to support developing some skills as well. Community Kitchen aims to gather 6 volunteers ready to dive into local culture, to learn more about food and food processing, to explore the community and visit households, to organize workshops for those willing to learn how to cook, but also to learn how to live sustainable and to avoid waste.
  4. Organizing as well as participating in periodic cooking and food processing workshops based on the volunteers’ own culinary backgrounds with the purpose of raising awareness about different local specifics around Europe, building a community and improving life-skills among local young people Organizing as well as participating in community events, such as food fairs, thematic community meetings, etc. Promoting the work among the locals and wider through social media posts Documenting local recipes and putting together a digital cookbook Organizing workshops on marketing and branding for (together with) the local community teaming up and supporting locals in branding their food products (according to their skills, interests and area of expertise) Organizing workshops on organic gardening or other topics related to sustainable eating and lifestyle habits to raise awareness about different realities and approaches around Europe The activity is planned as a long term individual volunteering service for several volunteers hosted at the same time.
