Photogrammetry has taking a key role in the work of archaeological and paleoanthropological documentation whether it is for scientific divulgation or, as in this case, for morphometric analysis using three-dimensional models. Step-by-step we present here a guide to develop basic photogrammetric model with which to begin studies on paleoanthropological material.

1. TAKING PICTURES
The fundamental basis for taking pictures in photogrammetry is
governed by the rule that the images must share at least another 60% of
information to make shots.
• Use of tripod to avoid blurry images
• Avoid discoloration of parts during shoot
• Avoid dominant color, changing lights, shadows, and
reflections 3. ROTATING OBJECTS
To obtain a full 3-dimensional rotating object, multiple
photographic series of different faces must be done.
2. IMAGE FILE FORMAT
Whenever possible: RAW format
• avoid involuntary changes, compression of images in the camera later retouch
• export in preferred formats: TIFF or JPG.
4. ADD PHOTOS, SEPARATE CHUNKS, ALIGN PHOTOS
he first step in Agisoft Photoscan is to “Add photos” (download them). For a better precision it is possible to
separate in different chunks the pictures by the different angles and align them independently before
merging them. “Align Photos” (it is the step in which the program recognize the common points between
pictures and starts to create the model)
5. ALIGH CHUNKS
After erase all the imperfections, we can align chunks
to fuse the different faces together
6. BUILD DENSE CLOUD
The program estimates the depth of the information to
combine each camera into a single dense point cloud.
• Verify the position of the bounding box
• Build the dense cloud
7. BUILD MESH
This step will allow the model to pass from a point based form to a
mesh structure.

8. BUILD TEXTURE
The program will take itself the textures of the photos and transfer them
to the 3-dimensional model.
9. EXPORT MODEL
The model is done, then we can save it as .psz or
export it in a different format such as .obj / .3ds or
.ply formats.
If we want a 3d model to use it in 3d programs of
edition or morphologic analysis programs. Many
other formats are possible.
