4. audience/ primary research
I started off by creating a survey to see what types of smells people
liked in perfumes, what brands they enjoy, whether the bottle design
is important, how much they spend now and how much they would
spend on a high-quality perfume and how frequently they wear
perfume. I left it for 5 days after sharing it with people to collect a
few results that will help me get a mixture of opinions. After I
finished my survey, I asked a few friends personally about them and
perfume just to gather some more precise information.
perfume survey
7. survey results
On my survey I got a good mix of results, it allowed me to see what is
most popular and what people don’t like as much. 55.6 percent of
responses were 18. 55.6 percent of people said they frequently wore
perfume. 88.9 percent of people spent under £50 on perfume a
month. 55.6 percent of people said that they were willing to pay up to
£25 for a good perfume. 25 percent of people said they prefer a floral
tone perfume. 37.5 percent of people said they buy perfume from
brands other than the ones listed. 44.4 percent said that the bottle
design is important. This will be helpful as it will help me think of the
different elements of my perfume and what factors will be most
beneficial as people enjoy it more.

go chic pink bike eau de parfum
As soon as I saw this perfume bottle I was obsessed with the
design and knew that I wanted to do something similar. I really,
really enjoy the shade of pink and the styling of the bike. I find
all of the hearts spread around the bike/ bottle pretty and think
that is a really nice feature that really brings the whole thing
together. I think that when I begin designing my product, I want
to implement the "theme" aspect where the bottle and the name/
scene are all linked and compliment each other. I think that I will
take the concept design, like the hearts snuck in everywhere, and
use that in my final design.

daisy love eau so sweet by marc jacobs
I have known about this perfume for a while now and I think it is
so cute, again its another really nice bottle that has a theme and
matches the name. I would like to create something similar to
this where the lid is the main feature because I think it looks
really pretty and a lot of people like it too. It also allows for the
bottom of the bottle to be more simplistic, so all the focus is on
the top where the matching theme and key piece is. I think that
from this perfume, I will take the soft colour palette and
complimenting text in my final design and in my ad.

Mille eau da parfume french fragrance
This bottle design is more simplistic than the others but still fits
the ideas I have for my project; it is made to look cutesy with the
pink bow on the lid and the simple text with the flower charm
hanging from the bow. I would like to incorporate something
like the charm and bow around the lid because it adds a nice
touch and I think that even after you finish the perfume you
could keep it and re use it for another item or just use it as a
decoration. So I think in my final design I will definitely be using
the charm, but I think I might keep it as a bow.

vera wang princess
This bottle design is another more simplistic design than the
others, but it still looks pretty and fits my criteria. it is a bink
heart that also sort of resembles a diamond?. I would like to
incorporate something similar because it adds a nice touch
despite it being such a minor detail. I also really like the lid
because it links in with the name of the perfume, I think that it
really brings the whole thing together and matches really nicely.
I could also use this in my perfume because my name
(luminary) can be linked to moons/ stars etc. I think this would
add a nice element to my project.

MISS DIOR – The new Eau de Parfum - YouTube
this is an advertisement for the Miss Dior Eau De Parfum. It instantly opens
with a scene of the actor stood on a road surrounded by palm trees, she is
wearing a summer dress and sunglasses to help set the scene. The sunset in
the background also helps do this. It then changes from a shot of her biting
the end of her sunglasses to her and another person, most likely to be her
boyfriend/ husband, shouting at each other. He says he loves her, and she
asks him to prove it. We can already tell that the perfume is targeted towards
strong, independent women. The next scene is of the same woman leaping off
of a pier into the sea while wearing a flowing blue dress. This could show
that she feels free and brave. The next 10 shots are quick and go from the
couple being sweet and romantic with each other to her screaming and
pushing him. A few moments later the video keeps cutting between three
different videos, the first one being a pink car driving recklessly that ends up
spelling out "love" on the road, the next one being the woman running along
the beach in a long flowing pink dress. This is another thing that shows that
the theme is supposed to be strong independent women.

Sweet Like Candy (Official Fragrance Commercial)
this is an advertisement for the Sweet Like Candy perfume by Ariana
Grande. the opening shot is bags of pink candyfloss hung up on a washing
line, similarly to this the next few shots are of multiple different types of
sweet confectionary and snacks, which links back to the name and theme of
the song. Then all of a sudden, we are shown an accident. There is an ice
cream van that is also shown to sell other items such as candyfloss, sweets,
baguettes etc. It then shows two of the people who presumably worked in the
van arguing with each other when Ariana notices and eventually walks over
and gets on top of the broken-down van. She then pulls out the sweet like
candy perfume and sprays it everywhere. There are a few more shots after of
Ariana posing with the perfume before it transitions to a still frame of the
perfume, the name and Ariana's name. This advertisement creates an idea of
the perfume saving the day and making everyone feel better.

miss dior, the new fragrence
this is another advertisement for the Miss Dior Eau Da Parfum, however this
time I believe the message is supposed to be about freedom and carelessness/
bravery. There are multiple shots in this video of flowers or flower designs,
whether that be on clothing or backgrounds (wallpapers, floors etc).
I thought this was about freedom and carelessness because it opens with a
woman leaping off of a bed in a huge, poofy dress and then it shows her
running toward the ocean ripping her t-shirt off without any second thought.
The next scene shows a car driving down a road carrying loads of flowers on
top of the roof. The woman is driving and is wearing a bandana that covers
the top half of her head. This is often seen in "free/brave" women and used
as a metaphor a lot in movies. She is then shown laying down in some grass
and laughing then it cuts back to the car, and she is singing really loud to
songs on the radio. The field then is covered in flowers, and she looks happy,
Once again shown in a long flowing dress. There is also a scene where her
and a man, presumably a partner, are laid in a kayak-like boat in the middle
of the ocean while a huge whale is beneath them. This also showing bravery
and fearlessness/ carelessness.

Emma Stone for Les Parfums Louis Vuitton
this is an advertisement Les Parfums that Emma Stone was modelling in. It
has a constant chilled vibe to it, and I don’t think that it escalates at any
point, nor does it de-escalate. Once again flowers are seen a lot throughout
this advertisement, this could show femininity and youth since that’s what
flowers are usually associated with in media. There are a lot of scenes where
Emma is walking and dancing through empty places such as beaches with
sunsets, rooftops, houses, bridges and stairs. She is also seen swimming in a
clear lake in the sunset while it is raining. I think tat an ongoing theme in
perfume ads is to make the viewer feel free and unbound to any set task. That
is why in a lot of ads, such as this one, the actor is seen running on the beach
in long dresses, swimming, running through fields, laying in grass etc. These
can all also be associated with feminine traits and also youth.
18. things to make for project:
-15-25 second advertisement
-logo
-social media pages, (instagram, twitter, youtube)
-port folio
-event ?
-posters?
19. This research will help me understand what exactly I want to do
and how to do it. It shows me what types of techniques are
commonly used in advertisements and what people like to see as
well. It also shows me what my target audience like, my survey
helped show me what smells, costs and designs are more
beneficial and/ or favoured within consumers. I have also brain
stormed what colours, fonts, logo designs and smells that I
would enjoy to do.
