Thank you again for bringing your expertise to the 2015 Annual Meeting. You, as organization leaders, have
the vision, knowledge and experience to help us pave our way into the future. We could not accomplish what
we do without your support and leadership. Throughout the meeting, we ask that you stay engaged, keep us
proactive and help us shape the future of our industry.
We appreciate the work of the members of the Annual Meeting Program Planning Committee and thank them
for putting together an energizing program. We also want to thank our members for sponsoring some of the

Creating a More Sustainable and Beautiful Future
This panel will explore what sustainability means to both brand owners and retailers.
Moderated by Pamela Gill Alabaster, Vice President, Global Corporate Responsibility
at the Estée Lauder Companies, the session will explore the business benefits
derived from corporate sustainability, integrating sustainability into business strategy
and practice, implementing sustainability into your brand promise, and stakeholder

consumers’ growing expectations in this area. Panel members include Kate Heiny,

Doug Rauch, Former President of Trader Joe’s, on Innovation
Doug Rauch spent 31 years with Trader Joe’s Company, the last 14 years as a president,
growing the business from a small, nine-store chain in Southern California to a nationally-
acclaimed retail success story with more than 340 stores in 30 states. How did Trader
Joe’s, a company that started as a 7/11 knockoff, become the hottest retailer in America?
The answer lies in its innovation. Rauch developed the company’s prized buying
philosophy, created its unique private label food program, and wrote and executed the
business plan for expanding Trader Joe’s nationally. He also championed the development
and execution of Trader Joe’s University and the prized customer experience orientation.

Working With Your Supply Chain to Create Compliant, Sustainable Products
There are increasing demands on suppliers, manufacturers and retailers to enhance
information transparency throughout the supply chain. In fact, many have come to view
‘information transparency’ not only as a fundamental consumer right, but as a critical
component of product safety. Increasing calls for product/ingredient information,
how information is exchanged, how information is used – all have important legal and
regulatory ramifications for companies. After opening remarks by Beth Lange, Council
EVP, Science and Chief Scientist and lunch, this session will feature a panel discussion
that focuses on the growing compliance requirements up and down the supply chain
around sustainability, key issues to them and potential solutions. Moderated by Tom
Myers, Associate General Counsel, PCPC, panelists include Kevin Gallagher, President,
Croda, Inc., and Jay Goldring, Director of Regulatory Affairs, Boots Retail USA. Mark
Rossolo, Public Affairs Director, Underwriters Laboratory, will provide a background
and review of their information management platform, challenges and opportunities to
facilitate information management in the supply chain.

  • 6. 2015 ANNUAL MEETING Page 4 Washington Report Hear from Council senior staff on the continuing and emerging issues affecting the cosmetic and personal care products industry. This panel discussion, moderated by Council President CEO Lezlee Westine, will update you on what’s happening in the Legislative, Regulatory, Legal, Public Affairs and Global areas of our industry. Panelists include Mark Pollak, Senior EVP; Elizabeth Anderson, EVP, Legal General Counsel; Beth Lange, EVP, Science; John Hurson, EVP, Government Affairs; Francine Lamoriello, EVP, Global Strategies; and Lisa Powers, EVP, Public Affairs Communications. Guest Speaker: David Rose, Author of Enchanted Objects David Rose is an instructor and researcher at the MIT Media Lab, and the author of the preeminent book on the Internet of Things, Enchanted Objects: Design, Human Desire, and the Internet of Things. “The history of computers has mostly been about efficiency,” Rose told The New York Times in a major three-page feature. “I think one of the things that’s changing is that enchanted objects can be about adding emotion and magic to the fabric of our everyday lives and experiences.” Growing Stronger PROGRAM A serial entrepreneur, Rose is the CEO at Ditto Labs, and was founder and CEO at Vitality, a company that reinvented medication packaging that is now distributed by CVS and Walgreens. He also founded Ambient Devices, which embedded internet information in objects such as lamps, mirrors, and umbrellas.
