Which one would be more comfortable in today’s culture?
Although the world has changed the way it does business in most arenas, education has changed very little. But now comes Common Core, which can be the catalyst to shake things up.
Brainstorm for a minute. http://p21.org/documents/p21-stateimp_professional_development.pdf this site provides a guideline for professional development necessary for 21st Century skills. It aligns well with what we are doing. The framework is at http://www.p21.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=254&Itemid=119 Although today’s session is focused on innovative use of technology to meet common core standards, technology without 21st century skills will not do the job!
If we want to use technology to develop 21st Century skills, then we need to seriously consider how the technology is used. The ISTI standards will help us to do that. Discuss how ISTI standards align to 21st Century Skills from previous slide. Have participants practice writing a vision statement based on last two slide.
Even with the 21st Century Skills and ISTI standards in mind, ff we compare data that we have now to where our vision says we want to be, we will see that there is room for growth. (numbers indicate “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree”
Although teachers believe that technology can improve their instructional practice, when asked how they currently us technology, we can see that practice and beliefs do not always align. Nor does practice always align to 21st Century needs nor to ISTI standards.
So how can technology make learning more authentic? Show or highlight various technologies. Is it the technology that makes a lesson authentic?
