Podcasting With Ludwina Dautovic:
How To Broadcast To A Global
Audience

Do you want to learn how to use podcasting to broadcast your messages to a

This week I interviewed podcasting expert Ludwina Dautovic, who has a mountain of
experience in this field. Imagine she began podcasting more than 10 years ago, when
broadcasting was hugely expensive and time consuming… and to this day she managed
to collect numerous awards for her work in this field!

week’s Sydney Business Month Super Savvy Business Show.

The massive advantage you have over big companies
“Now, because of the new technology, because of the internet and with tools like what
we’re using here right now to do this Google Hangout the media is now accessible to

anybody”
This is how Ludwina started her pleading in favour of broadcasting. You can almost
touch her enthusiasm when she speaks about things like this, and, once you heard her
talk about podcasting and broadcasting you’re thinking, “Yeah, I CAN do that TOO!”.
The incredible thing about broadcasting is that we can now create a global voice by
using new media channels.
And the thing I love about this practice is that for the first time in history, in the modern
era I guess, small businesses really can compete with big businesses because we now
have access to tools and ways to get our message out there which previously we didn’t if
we didn’t have a huge budget.
Small businesses now have the edge over big corporates. We have the courage to put
our faces “out there” so the world can see us. People get the feeling that they know us
and thus we succeed in building the know-like-trust factor quicker than big companies,
who lack a face, a personality, an avatar.
This is a massive advantage!

1. The Evolution of broadcasting
Here’s what it cost Ludwina to get her message out to her audience back in the
analogue era:
 Gear for video shooting
 Video editing gear
 VHA player
 Total cost: over $20,000 (a video camera alone was $4,000)
Here’s what it costs you now to create your own broadcasting voice:
 Smartphone (couple hundred dollars) - offers better quality than all old video
cameras
 Video camera (you can find one for $100)
 Video editing software (under $400)
 Intro and outro for video and audio: $5 on Fiverr.com
 Total cost: under $1,000
We really have NO excuse for not being able to broadcast our message!

2. The different broadcasting methods
1. PODCASTING
2. VIDEO
3. BLOGGING
The benefits of podcasting are mainly:
 It’s convenient: you don’t need to do your hair and makeup (Ludwina used to do
her interviews in her PJs!).

There is a lot of communication going on during an interview
Having your own podcast an interviewing people is just as having a one hour
business coaching with the expert you are interviewing
It is easier to connect with people no matter where they are
Podcasts show on iTunes, which is a massive search directory now. If you can
connect it to iTunes, Google and YouTube you have a winning trio
You can turn an audio podcast into a video by adding some images (which really
helps with SEO)
Podcasts are easy to consume (people can listen to them during their downtime:
while walking the dog, cleaning the house, driving, etc.)

Don’t assume that everybody enjoys consuming information the same way that you do.
That’s something I am very aware of in my business and in all of my online marketing: I
actually do all 3 of these things (podcast, video, blogging) because I realised that some
people like to listen, others like to read and others like to watch.
You can start with just one format and turn it into all 3 types of content, which is the
basis of the concept of repurposing content. It doesn’t need to be a time-consuming
task; a 3-5 minute video can be striped into an mp3 and then transcribed.
You can outsource all this work to your team members.

3. Dealing with camera phobia
I teamed up with Ludwina during this interview because she has the gift of coming up
with amazing ideas for podcasting. Everyone who is just starting up in this field will want
to know how to “make it”, and Ludwina explains it beautifully:
1. Don’t wait until it is perfect
2. Get rid of the “uhm”s and “oh”s and the vocabulary / words you don’t like by
having a rubber band on your wrist and touching it each time you say the words
you want to eliminate from your vocabulary
3. Eliminate the stress and frustration by thinking that you are at a barbecue and
chatting with someone you know
4. Play a family game: talk about a topic for X minutes without saying “uuuh”. The
one who says the least “uhm”s wins.
And, like I always say, it is better to have 80% of something than 100% of nothing, so
start broadcasting now!
If you are having trouble talking in front of a camera or recording your voice, think about
how it is that you want people to perceive you on camera. Do you want them to see a
stiff perfectionist or do you want your personality to shine through?
Whatever the thing is that makes you YOU let it out because this is what people are
going to love about you and your business.
“There are at least 100,000 people out there who are just as weird as you are. And that’s
all you need to grow a business with.”, says Ludwina.

4. Ways to approach broadcasting (not just through
interviews)
There are different styles of podcasting. If you don’t feel comfortable interviewing
someone (a business owner) you can “start low” with other types of podcasts:
 Podcast-review show - very conversational tone (run an analysis of other
podcasts)
 Tip of the Week Podcast (1 to 5 minutes long where you share … your tip of the
week)
 Conversational Podcast - team up with 2-3 more people and have a podcast
which is similar to morning radio shows
If you are uncomfortable showing up in front of the camera to shot a video, then there
are “escape routes” for you as well. Here’s what you can do:
 Use the audio recording and add relevant images to create a video
 Record yourself talking on the margin of a presentation (you can use
ScreenFlow, Camtasia, Jing, etc - these are screen capture software)
Don’t forget that interview podcasts are the best of them all. When interviewing a
business person for a podcast is like having a 1 hour business coaching with them It’s
your show so you get to ask questions that you want answered and which are relevant
to you.
Plus, it’s a really great way to start building your network, profile and business alliances.
As Ludwina puts it, “Having a broadcast channel gives you that scope to have a broader
read and catch more of those fish that you want”.

5. How to make money with podcasting
You’ll never make money with podcasting DIRECTLY.
BUT during the podcast you can offer your listeners a special offer, the possibility to sign
up for your masterclass / membership program, you can give them video training
materials, and so on. So what you are doing is you are using podcasting as part of your
marketing funnel to attract people to your website.
The extra benefit is that you are creating high quality content that Google loves and
which has a huge positive impact on your website rankings and SEO.

BLOGGING The benefits of podcasting are mainly:  It’s convenient: you don’t need to do your hair and makeup (Ludwina used to do her interviews in her PJs!). p. 2
  • 3.       There is a lot of communication going on during an interview Having your own podcast an interviewing people is just as having a one hour business coaching with the expert you are interviewing It is easier to connect with people no matter where they are Podcasts show on iTunes, which is a massive search directory now. If you can connect it to iTunes, Google and YouTube you have a winning trio You can turn an audio podcast into a video by adding some images (which really helps with SEO) Podcasts are easy to consume (people can listen to them during their downtime: while walking the dog, cleaning the house, driving, etc.) Don’t assume that everybody enjoys consuming information the same way that you do. That’s something I am very aware of in my business and in all of my online marketing: I actually do all 3 of these things (podcast, video, blogging) because I realised that some people like to listen, others like to read and others like to watch. You can start with just one format and turn it into all 3 types of content, which is the basis of the concept of repurposing content. It doesn’t need to be a time-consuming task; a 3-5 minute video can be striped into an mp3 and then transcribed. You can outsource all this work to your team members. 3. Dealing with camera phobia I teamed up with Ludwina during this interview because she has the gift of coming up with amazing ideas for podcasting. Everyone who is just starting up in this field will want to know how to “make it”, and Ludwina explains it beautifully: 1. Don’t wait until it is perfect 2. Get rid of the “uhm”s and “oh”s and the vocabulary / words you don’t like by having a rubber band on your wrist and touching it each time you say the words you want to eliminate from your vocabulary 3. Eliminate the stress and frustration by thinking that you are at a barbecue and chatting with someone you know 4. Play a family game: talk about a topic for X minutes without saying “uuuh”. The one who says the least “uhm”s wins. And, like I always say, it is better to have 80% of something than 100% of nothing, so start broadcasting now! If you are having trouble talking in front of a camera or recording your voice, think about how it is that you want people to perceive you on camera. Do you want them to see a stiff perfectionist or do you want your personality to shine through? Whatever the thing is that makes you YOU let it out because this is what people are going to love about you and your business. “There are at least 100,000 people out there who are just as weird as you are. And that’s all you need to grow a business with.”, says Ludwina. p. 3
  • 4. 4. Ways to approach broadcasting (not just through interviews) There are different styles of podcasting. If you don’t feel comfortable interviewing someone (a business owner) you can “start low” with other types of podcasts:  Podcast-review show - very conversational tone (run an analysis of other podcasts)  Tip of the Week Podcast (1 to 5 minutes long where you share … your tip of the week)  Conversational Podcast - team up with 2-3 more people and have a podcast which is similar to morning radio shows If you are uncomfortable showing up in front of the camera to shot a video, then there are “escape routes” for you as well. Here’s what you can do:  Use the audio recording and add relevant images to create a video  Record yourself talking on the margin of a presentation (you can use ScreenFlow, Camtasia, Jing, etc - these are screen capture software) Don’t forget that interview podcasts are the best of them all. When interviewing a business person for a podcast is like having a 1 hour business coaching with them It’s your show so you get to ask questions that you want answered and which are relevant to you. Plus, it’s a really great way to start building your network, profile and business alliances. As Ludwina puts it, “Having a broadcast channel gives you that scope to have a broader read and catch more of those fish that you want”. 5. How to make money with podcasting You’ll never make money with podcasting DIRECTLY. BUT during the podcast you can offer your listeners a special offer, the possibility to sign up for your masterclass / membership program, you can give them video training materials, and so on. So what you are doing is you are using podcasting as part of your marketing funnel to attract people to your website.
