21. There should be sufficient light in and around house.
Floors must be polished to give a neat look, but should not be
over slippery to cause falls.
Avoid climbing on chairs, tables, boxes, crates and barrels as they
are unsafe. Instead, use safe ladders which make the work easier
and faster. The ladder must be steady and strong enough to bear
your weight, have a safe flat base and must rest on solid and
leveled ground. Preferably use lenson or step ladder which has
four legs, with locking system and a platform to sit on top.
Always have someone around to support your ladder while you
are on it.
Staircase must be well lit. Broken and worn edges of steps must
be repaired immediately. There should be railings on both sides
of the staircase to hold while ascending or descending the stairs.
Never jump from the last step of stairs.
No mat or rug should be placed either on top or bottom of the
flight of stairs as it may cause trips and accidents. No objects,
toys or fruit peels should be thrown on stairs to avoid slipping
and getting hurt.
Underlay or rubber linings must be placed to keep rugs, mats
and foot rests in place.
Do not walk with excessive loads or carry things which obstruct
your view of the way.
22. Keep aisles, walkways and stairs clear and free of
obstacles. Look carefully where you put your feet
while ascending or descending stairs and use right
size rubber soled shoes at home.
Snow must be cleared from steps (in winters in
northern areas.)
Clean up spills immediately and walk carefully on
wet surfaces. Slow down, keep a firm footing,
maintain balance and always keep one hand free
balance in emergencies.
Bathrooms must not be slippery, elderly people
and children must not lock bathroom doors from
inside.
Switches should be outside the rooms close to
entrance doors.
Keep a torch or chargeable lights handy in case of
electricity failure.
