FAIR data and standards for a coordinated COVID-19 response

Conference: Open Repository, Indianapolis, 8-12 June 2015 Presenters: Andrea Bollini, Michele Mennielli Cineca, Italy We would like to share with the DSpace Community some useful tips, starting from how to embed DSpace into a larger IT ecosystem that can provide additional value to the information managed. We will then show how publication data in DSpace - enriched with a proper use of the authority framework - can be combined with information coming from the HR system. Thanks to this, the system can provide rich and detailed reports and analysis through a business intelligence solution based on the Pentaho’s Mondrian OLAP open source data integration tools. We will also present other use cases related to the management of publication information for reporting purpose: publication record has an extended lifecycle compared to the one in a basic IR; system load is much bigger, especially in writing, since the researchers need to be able to make changes to enrich data when new requirements come from the government or the university researcher office; data quality requires the ability to make distributed changes to the publication also after the conclusion of a validation workflow. Finally we intend to present our direct experience and the challenges we faced to make DSpace easily and rapidly deployable to more than 60 sites.

This presentation provides an extensive introduction to the Digital Repository Audit Method Based On Risk Assessment (DRAMBORA). After considering how the ideas of risk and trust might affect digital repositories, the DRAMBORA methodology is applied using two practical exercises. DRAMBORA can also be applied using an interactive Web-based version of the tool, and the presentation provides an illustrated guided tour of this version of the tool. The presentation was given as part of the final module of a 5-module course on digital preservation tools for repository managers, presented by the JISC KeepIt project. Concluding by comparing DRAMBORA with DAF, the Data Asset Framework, also produced by the DCC, brings the KeepIt course effectively full circle, as the course began in module 1 with DAF. A successful cloud transformation journey incorporates the three pillars of transformation: people, process, and technology. While leveraging the technology, the people component drives transformations. But far too often, cloud transformation efforts concentrate on the process improvement strategies and technology implementation, while essentially ignoring the human aspect of the change initiative and the opportunity to develop a more agile, DevOps culture. Many leaders who look back on previous change initiatives reflect that process and technology were simple to change compared to the people part of the organization. A central perspective within the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework, the "people perspective," guides organizations about aspects that affect people to reduce the risk and accelerate the value realization from cloud adoption. Commercial software products rely on formal test strategies to describe who will perform testing, when testing will occur, the process that will be followed, the depth of testing, and more. Test strategies are extended by test plans that detail specific tests that will be executed and how success will be measured. Test strategies and plans support objectively evaluating that software meets requirements and functions properly. Conversely, security teams think about where security gates should be in the SDLC and deploy SAST, DAST, IAST, manual testing, or a combination. Rarely is it considered what level of coverage these methods provide, and output from security testing is not mapped back to requirements. Compared to other teams involved in the SDLC, security seems to just be winging their test strategies and plans. Especially in a DevOps environment where silos are broken and responsibilities are shared across dev, ops, test, and security, use of common methodologies will help to reduce confusion and improve pipeline throughput. During this talk we will discuss: - What are test strategies and how are they used by product teams to provide consistency in testing (something security generally lacks)? - What are test plans and how are they used by product teams to enable visibly strong test coverage (something security also lacks)? - In a DevOps environment, what is security’s role in existing test strategies? - How can security teams leverage test plans to provide better visibility on test coverage and map findings back to requirements to reduce confusion and demonstrate security value to stakeholders throughout the value stream? - What other lessons can we learn from how dev, ops, and test support quality deliveries that can enable more effective and efficient security (e.g. security as code)?
