Mrs. Dora Doe, Secretary
Pleasant Town Parents for Purity
CC: Jane Example, Director of Pleasant Town Public Library
Dear Mrs. Doe and Members of the Pleasant Town Parents for Purity,
Thank you for your thoughtful letter regarding an item of our teen collection. I most certainly
appreciate your concern for the children of our community and your devotion to their education. We,
the staff of the Young Adult Services, carefully evaluated the item in question, Drill, McDonald, and
Odes’Deal With It!,following your complaint, and have found that it does in fact fall within our Selection
Policy for the teen collection, which you yourself can review on the library’s website
(www.ptpl.org/policy/selection). As you will note, it is our policy to collect a wide range of materials
addressing multiple viewpoints, and while the opinion of the Parents for Purity is certainly a valid one,
others must be represented as well. We welcome suggestions of additional titles for the collection if you
find that the viewpoints of Parents for Purity are not fairly represented.
If you are unsatisfied with our initial review, please feel free to file a formal complaint with our
Library Board of Trustees, by filling out the enclosed form entitled “Request for Reconsideration of
Library Resources.” Once we have received this formal complaint, the item in question will undergo a
thorough examination by members of the Board and the Library Director to verify our decision to collect
this item. Again, we sincerely appreciate your concern in this matter and encourage any additional
feedback you may have in the future.
Sincerely,
Emily Ward, Director of Young Adult Services
Pleasant Town Public Library
