2. Fire is the most fundamental element.
Since ancient times it has been seen to have a protective
character to ward off evil and symbolized the giving of
thanks for bountiful harvests.
3. The traditional party in Spain is the celebration in honour
of San Juan.
It takes place in the evening of June 23.
4. Bonfires are lit in the streets or on the sand of the
beaches.
The rituals are:
Jumping over the fire.
Touch the water that is blessed in the night
Asking for some wishes, and there are fireworks too.

6. In our town, we always celebrate St John”s Eve. It’s the
party that has its origin in the festivals held around the
summer solstice and purification rites associated with it.
They usually make a big typical bonfire and next to that,
there is a queue where they give a cup of chocolate and
some biscuits.

8. For children there is a range of activities, but the most
important was: They write a wish on a paper and then
throw it away the fire.
There are also rock and pop concerts and at the end of
the party always sing Basque songs.
