From Event to Action: Accelerate Your Decision Making with Real-Time Automation
Question 4
1. Question 4- How did you use media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evacuation?
Erica Hall
2. Throughout the media project of music videos we were faced with a range of media technologies. These
technologies were either challenging, there to support our work or in order to create our final projects.
Research and Planning
In order to collaborate all our initial research so we were able to form
ideas about music videos and to look in conventions. In order to do this
research we had to use the internet. The internet is there as a resource
where we can find out as much information as possible. This was very
efficient and effective when researching for this music project as all the
information was there. The Internet is a quick way of getting the
resources that we needed to then learn and create relevant feedback to
our group and for our own sakes. The search that I used was goggle from
this I am able to type in what I what to find out and then it will link to
millions of pages. These links are then beneficial for the research as there
is so many different websites that will provide information.
3. • When researching and planning Chloe and I used YouTube to get
ideas and to find an artist that was unsigned. These were more
visual ideas so we could watch videos and form convections
about different genres. The idea of YouTube is so individuals can
upload videos on here for other to view. Some people are made
famous over this website or are already famous.
As part of research we had to find out about genres of music and the conventions behind them. Overall this would
help towards the planning, as we needed to choose a genre that would work best with our own ideas and what the
target audiences wanted. By using the Internet we were able to get an idea of the website that provided key
information that we could use or that we could just use as a form of visual research. Below is what sources I used
on the internet and how I overall structured my ideas throughout the project:
When it came to planning for our song us in particular liked
Eliza Doolittle style that she does and we found this all out
from YouTube. In the print screen to the right hand side you
can see how the website is set out. This one is of Eliza
Doolittle video as she was one of our main inspirations.
From this page you can view the video, see how many
people have viewed it and liked it (this will give you an idea
of how popular it is), write comments. From this research we
knew that this would be a good place when uploading our
own video as millions of people can view it. When looking
for our unsigned artist we actual found her on YouTube. We
tried many other websites to try and find an unsigned artist
but there was nothing suited to the style of Eliza Doolittle
and Katie Melua. (The genre was folk, acoustic and indie).
We tried looking at http://www.unsigned.com/ on this
website we were able to look for the genre that we wanted
but there wasn’t anything upbeat and playful. Overall, we
found Drew Tabor that fitted in well with what we wanted
from our own intentions and what we have found out
magazine advert.
4. • NME- this website was useful when finding out about this applied to our ancillary
texts that we had to produce. As it was lad out like a magazine there are adverts in
there to advertise which means we were able to research about what we needed to
include making it an effective. To the right is how the website is laid out and it is
similar with the actual magazine as well. I feel that it is key to make things stand
out on the website and magazine to draw the attention of the audience.
• When we had made our film in order to get feedback from our
target audience we decided to use social networking sites to post
our video on here. As our target audience was 15 plus most of the
people that Chloe and I have on “face book” are around this age so
it will be suited to them
• In order for me to get all my ideas down I needed a
suitable place to do so. I didn’t want it to just be a word
document throughout the whole course so I decided to
use a range of documentation programmes. Overall I
used word, PowerPoint and prezi these three enabled
be to present all my finds in different ways to make the
present of my blog look more inviting to read.
5. Construction
In order to create our overall three products we used a variety of technologies that would
make these look most effective and professional. The camera that we used to film our video
with was a Panasonic HC-V10 and this provided us with HD recording. The camera made
everything in effective quality so all close-up was easy to identify all of the little details.
Whilst recording we needed to use a tripod in order to record when we were both in the shot
and also to keep it steady at points. This meant all the records were straight and not wonky as
this could cause distractions from the audience point of view. We also used a camera to take
the pictures for our ancillary texts and that was a Lumix. This was easy to get hold of as it
was mine and produces high quality images that we could use for our ancillary texts.
After we had film all our footage we had to encode and then edit our
video. The software that we used to edit our music video was
premier pro. As you can see in the screen shot it is very complex.
From previous knowledge and experiences of primer pro Chloe and I
were familiar with how to use it. On here you are able to do a range
of editing:
• Cutting
• Slow motion
• Transitions
• Effects
• Fasten it all up
6. All of these elements are key when editing a music video as small aspects can
have an overall outlook on how the audience view the video. We used a slide
transition for the chorus and also a fade out when going to a change in location. In
the screen shot on the left hand shop it shows one of the faded transitions in
action. This transition allowed the audience to see the change in place and makes
it easily identify.
In the screenshot above you are bale to cut down a clip to suit it to our preferences. The blue dot allows you to set a point
so then you can only put that part in your editing
Lastly, Photoshop was the prime software we used in order
to create our ancillary texts. On here we were able to add
filters on the picture to make them look more summery. We
used it for the DIGI pac and the magazine advert as we
could set the page to the parasitic size. We need to make
sure that everything were imported in to the design suited
with the overall genre and Photoshop enabled us to do this.
Photoshop did appear challenge as there are many different
things that you can do on this programme, however it was
quickly picked after recapping everything I knew.
