Moving to a smarter planet
 First, the world is becoming instrumented.
 Imagine, if you can, a billion transistors for every human being. We're almost there. Sensors
 are being embedded everywhere: in cars, appliances, cameras, roads, pipelines…even in
 medicine and livestock.

 Second, our world is becoming interconnected.
 Soon, there will be two billion people on the Internet—but systems and objects can now
 quot;speakquot; to each other, as well. Think of a trillion connected and intelligent things, and the
 oceans of data they will produce.

 Third, all of those instrumented and interconnected things are
 becoming intelligent.
 They are being linked to powerful new backend systems that can process all that data, and to
 advanced analytics capable of turning it into real insight, in real time.

What has this felt like – Minor Celebrity?
 •Choosing to have one known persona across all places has challenges
 •Can epredator have a day off?
 •Social and Work interaction mix online, but good things happen.
 •Become a target.
 •Honestly sharing means…. sharing the good and the bad.
 •Openness becomes a way of life but can scare some people/organizations.
 •You have to consider the leadership you are offering and that may not match
 with the organizational structure or existing politics.
 •Being public and sharing in live environments relies on trusting serendipity.
 •Keeping control of the ego is hard, but consuming as well as producing in
 web2.0 seems to be the key. Don’t just broadcast.

 Often treated as a side project

  the workflow of everyday business life

 Treat it as you treat email systems, instant
  messaging, site services.

 A successful enterprise virtual world is wired into the
  services of the enterprise.

 Use as and when needed, bring info in and push info
  out

Sensors are being embedded everywhere: in cars, appliances, cameras, roads, pipelines…even in medicine and livestock. Second, our world is becoming interconnected. Soon, there will be two billion people on the Internet—but systems and objects can now quot;speakquot; to each other, as well. Think of a trillion connected and intelligent things, and the oceans of data they will produce. Third, all of those instrumented and interconnected things are becoming intelligent. They are being linked to powerful new backend systems that can process all that data, and to advanced analytics capable of turning it into real insight, in real time.
