My Goals Of Basketball : My Success In Basketball
Many people take up basketball thinking that it is easy, after all how hard can it be throwing a
ball into a hoop? In the sport of basketball it looks harder than it seems, you need skills. Every
human in the world has at least one goal in their life. For example to become a famous athlete,
singer, dancer, doctor, writer, and "etc". We all as humans have goals, my goal is to get better in
basketball. So what can I do to get better just sit around all day and just wait for it to come to me?
No. I have to practice I wanna be able to make more shots than everyone else, because that is the
point of the of sport basketball, who ever score more points wins. We all have goals and we
obviously want that goal, but how do we obtain that goal? We should set goals that motivates us.
When we set goals for ourselves, it is important that they motivate us. We should set smart goals,
set goals writing them down, and make an action plan, and stick with it. My goal to become a
better basketball player is to exercise everyday, eating healthy, doing drills, and practicing my
shots. When I wanted to get better In basketball I would write down my weaknesses in my journal
and work on it everyday that is what I told myself I would do, but I did not because I did not believe
or have faith in myself.
My experience with basketball began in late July of 2005 when my cousin came to stay with us; my
mom informed me that I would have to take my cousin Mo to the basketball court in our
neighborhood. I had

History of Basketball Essay
The game of basketball is recognizable high school or the NBA. The sport is very popular and is
played worldwide. Everyone may also know the sport from some names of basketball stars. Maybe
the names Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, or Carmelo Anthony
ring a bell. They are all outstanding players of the game and have a significant understanding of how
the game is played. Basketball has changed alot overtime and has become one of Americas most
played sports.
It takes time to really learn the ins and outs of the game and also to get a good handle on things.
The game of basketball started in Springfield Massachusetts and has now become on of the most
popular sports nationally known. The game was designed...show more content...
He got to thinking and started combining ideas from other games to make the game of what it is
known today as basketball. Naismith invented this game in 1891 (Faurschou). He decided to start
making little notes of his ideas. He was going to use a slightly large and light ball. Since the game
was made to play indoors the players would have no need to run with the ball. Also players
couldn't hit or strike other players. After Naismith came up with the basic rules he decided what
the goal of the game would be. The goals were first going to be placed low but Naismith decided
that if the other team were defending it, it would be nearly impossible to make a goal. This is
how the idea of the basketball hoop came about. He decided to place the goal over the player's
heads. The goals would start as peach baskets but would later evolve into hoops (Padwe). The
hoops would be made of iron and a braided cord netting to verify the ball was going through the
hoop (Peterson).Naismith had his game ready but needed a way to start it. He thought of several
different ways but wanted to eliminate roughness. He decided to take part of rugby when the ref
throws the ball in between the players. Naismith said the ball would be thrown in an upward
motion in between both of the centers for each team and this would be the start of the game. The
game of basketball was now ready but just needed people to start it. The kids at the YMCA training
center started

Become a Good Basketball Player Essay
There are numerous different steps required to be a good basketball player. There are different
aspects of the game that can drastically change the tempo of the game. Of course shooting the ball
is important, but improving dribbling, defensive, and passing skills are also important. A players
ability in all phases of the game is what makes them a good player. The first thing to practice on is
dribbling. Dribbling is one of the most crucial skills to have. Good dribbling enables the player to
move around more and get to places quicker. The best way to improve this skill is to dribble 2
basketballs, one in each hand. This task will be especially hard for the secondary hand, but
improvement should be noticed within a few moments. Once the...show more content...
To be a good basketball player, good passing is required. Good passing rewards the team with more
control over the game. Once the player has learned the basics of passing, they can work on the
more advanced ways of distributing the basketball. Passing between the legs or behind your back is
a tough technique to conquer. However once these tools are learned, they can be used for better
passes and to fake out the defense. A good offense is nice to have, but good defense lowers the
other teams chance to score. Good defense also takes the pressure off the team when on offense.
The team won't feel as if they have to score on every possession. Defense is hard to train, and a
partner is required. The main thing to do on defense is to stay between the person being guarded
and the goal. A good defensive player needs to be quick and agile, but also have good endurance.
Once the player has learned how to defend, they can become a bit more aggressive. The player
should soon reach out to interrupt dribbles and steal the ball, or try block shots and passes to create
turnovers. Shooting the basketball is the easiest thing to improve. The best way to enhance shooting
is to keep practicing. Better shooting greatly increases the teams score and gives the opponents a
hard time of catching up. Once a player feels their shot is good enough, they can attempt 3–point
shots. There is a line pretty far away from the goal

Narrative Essay On Basketball
Walking onto the court almost every time was definitely a mix of excitement but also terrifying.
Basketball is a team sport so the amount of pressure to perform for your team was very nerve
racking. Although no one can perform perfectly at all time who doesn't want to play as well as
you can in every game. Although every time walking onto the court gave some type of emotion, I
had never had a wave of emotion hit me like it did the first time I stepped on to Rocky's court. I
was especially nervous but truly excited for the fact I was about to prove myself that I could
continue my passion at the next level. I had met the team on my visit and I found out how great all
of the girl were, but after I signed a new kind of anxiety set in. I was so nervous to fit in and be
accepted by my new team. I was also so afraid to let the coaches down. When I got here and
started practice I found out I was worried for nothing. I was accepted by my team and was not
letting my performance anxiety get to me. I decided I was just going to play my game and not worry
so much. I am so thankful that my worrying was for nothing and I feel like I am really going to
enjoy myself here not just in basketball but also in the social aspect. While I was reading The Art
of Fielding I felt myself connecting to Henry the most. Why I was relating to henry was due to him
not being the best of the field but knowing the game and his position so extremely well. Henry is
also from a small–town such I am so I really connected to the feeling. Although throughout the story
he started to allow himself to get performance anxiety. Learning more about it will allow me to be
more aware of the feeling and deal with is before it becomes an issue. Henry was very dedicated to
baseball, he not only played the game he also spent so much time studying the game to improve
his performance. He has a love for baseball that is indescribable and that is why I connected with
him more in the beginning. Henry Skrimshander was just a small town boy who was playing
baseball who really had so clear future ahead of him until one day he proved himself to a college
player who believed he was the next big thing. Mike Schwartz who is the college player who
decided Henery would be

I can recall this day unquestionably. It was a bright summer day, the trees looked taller and the
daily breeze was magnificent. I had just woken up from a nap, when I received a text message
from my basketball coach. It read, "Hey girls, let's get together and go hoop at the rec today." I
read the message and I was amped with excitement. It had been months since I had actually
played basketball with all girls. I missed it so much. I tried to stay busy to pass the time, so I begin
to clean. My apartment was a mess and I knew that I would be cleaning for a while. I washed the
dishes in what I can imagine was one of the happiest ways ever. I was actually singing while
washing the dishes. This was very new for me. I even vacuumed the floor...show more content...
I let my teammates know that I called next after the guys that were sitting. Everyone seemed
excited, my coach had the biggest smile on her face. After about 15 minutes of shooting around it
was time for us to play. The time had finally come, I thought to myself. We walked onto the court
and established who was guarding who. We were ready to play. I looked around to see who I was
going to guard, and as I looked around in a quick 360 glance it seemed as though all the guys that
we were about to play had this annoyed look on their faces. I even seen an eyeroll from one of the
guys. I wasn't really sure what it was about until the game actually started. They weren't taking us
serious at all. There was a ton of goofy passes , and tricks. It seemed like they were trying to
embarrass us or something, but this ignorance did not stop us. We kept playing hard and begin
beating the boys by about 5 points. Once they realized this they began to get serious and play
harder. While I was running down the court for a fast break I heard one of their friends on the
sideline say "Hell no." I believe he was referring to the fact that we were winning. He obviously
didn 't want that to happen because he would have to play against us, and God forbid girls playing
basketball with guys; oh no! Eventually, the game was over. We walked off the court with our heads
held high, but I could tell that the way the guys were acting bother my

The Sociological perspective on basketball
In sociology, there are 3 paradigms. There is the conflict theory perspective, the symbolic–interaction
perspective and the structural–functionalist perspective. From a conflict paradigm point of view, the
essay would focus on gender and how the assumption that girls lack the same level of strength and
stamina as men. The WNBA (Women NationalBasketball League) doesn't get the same amount of
respect as the males do in the NBA (National Basketball League). Another issue could be that the
NBA players have a higher annual salary than an average teacher. A structural
–functionalist approach
could be focused on how it creates jobs (the NBA) and academically too. Basketball could also be
focused on how...show more content...
How does playing basketball for a school can help a student academically in high school from a
structural–functionalist perspective? You notice that playing basketball for a high school can help
physically, mentally, socially, and academically. Not only does playing basketball for a school not
only build friendships between team members, but could also give them that competitive edge to
become better than who they are physically and mentally. For a student to continue playing
basketball for a school, he'll have to stay in shape for the season and be able to keep the grades
above average. Academically, at acollege level, basketball is a good and bad thing. Majority of
universities pay attention to the student skill level at the sport rather than his grades, just to ensure
the schools success.
Paragraph 5 = From a structural–functionalist perspective, you realize that by the game of basketball,
you can build friendships easily just by having something in common like loving the game. You
also notice how job opportunities can be given by playing the sport or becoming a trainer in the
game and help the athletics stay in shape. By having more job opportunities, it expands the
economy. From a young age, basketball can not only help you academically, but help you get into
colleges. Paragraph 1 = the 3 paradigms
Paragraph 2 = friendships are built thru basketball. Gyms, reck team, common love for a team or

Basketball And Basketball : My Life Of Basketball
Taking a retrospective look at my life history, as a child I recall having all this energy and being
very hands on. As a child, we did not have much to play with. So, anything that I was able to lay
my hands on was a big payoff. My mother bought us a basketball where she thought me how to shoot
the basketball. At the time, we did not have the money to pay for a basketball goal. My mother
said that she had an idea. So, my mother said, "let's go to the store when we get back you will
play." We went to the store and we came back with a milk crate where we cut the bottom of it out
and we hung it on the telephone pole in front of our house. For me this was a challenge even
though I had a lot of energy and was super motivated to play. It was hard shooting the basketball in
the milk crate. I believe shooting the basketball in the milk crate helped in many different ways.
Thanks to great idea my mother came up with, to this day basketball is my life. It a tradition that I
pass on to my kids. Basketball was a tool for me as it was a sport that my mother taught me to
keep me out of trouble. Basketball taught me team work as well as communicating with others as
well as working with other. Basketball is an activity I consistently enjoy engaging in with my
friends and family. I have three boys and one girl and they all love basketball. Basketball has
taken over our house. Our three boys play basketball for the school, so we as a family attend to
all the games. Basketball for me is not only a hobby its where I release stress. For example, playing
basketball with other team mates gives me a chance to get rid of all negative energy that has piled
up throughout the week.
Nature and nurture shaping one's character. Nature and nurture affect one's character in countless
ways. In my daily life, I've come across people on the basketball court as well as interacted with
some at work that have a different idea about how to approach issues in life. Taking in to
consideration nurture there are some parents that believe their children should grow up and be
leaders and to demonstrate it in their lives. Features like this are acquired when you grow up with
and associate with people.

Basketball as it is known today invented by Physical Education Instructor Dr. James Naismith in
December 1891 in the town of Springfield, Massachusetts. He invented it to condition young
athletes during cold months and for it being an less injury prone sport than football. Why is
basketball good for either the players or spectators? There are ways to show why basketball is a good
sport for either player or spectators, by showing facts and experiences me and the people
encountered playing basketball. Basketball is the best sport due to its rules, facts, health and fitness
benefits, and people's experiences.
Basketball is the best sport because it can be played with two to five players each side, and also a
sport to play with friends and other competitors. According to Total Sportek, Basketball is the
second most played game in the world. It had at least a billion followers and is a major sport in
USA with NBA generating over 4.75 billion dollars per year in revenue. Basketball can also be
played with a person and be entertained for hours. It is a good sport to play because playing
basketball has benefits on health and fitness. It burns calories by running, jumping, and quick
lateral movements done in basketball provides a significant amount of aerobic exercise and can
burn a great deal of calories. It helps develop concentration and self discipline through the rules
implemented in the game, breaking them can result to penalties for the player and the team.
Practicing self discipline helps one another become more competitive and fair to their game
focused in succeeding. It improves awareness in which a person will be aware of oneself and
evolve the understanding the relationship of these objects when there is a change of position.
Enhanced confidence in which self esteem increases and help gain more confidence, being a
confident person has more faith in his or her skills and can face life with a better opposition.
Basketball also helps players improve concentration and encourages the development of teamwork.
People dream of going to the NBA. It's such an exciting game, filled with buzzer–beaters, blowouts,
and ankle breakers. So much can also be learned from the game, such as the correct way to shoot,

not to the extent they are. The whistle begins to blow for the girl on the other team to serve the ball.
Right when she hits the ball I noticed the ball was heading straight towards me "Mine mine

which is our setter. The setter on the team has a hard position because they constantly hear us call
for the setter to set us a ball to hit and they have to be able to get to the ball to receive a second hit.
Unfortunately Lee County got the winning point to this game but the next time we play them we
will have the winning point. Once we returned to the high school my mom was waiting on me in

In basketball, you don't really have to try that hard in practice to the point where somebody has to
get hurt. Basketball and Football both cause concussions, concussions are very dangerous
because you could pass out, get brain damage, and you wouldn't be able to play for a couple of
weeks. Concussions are caused by very hard contact or somebody call fall on your head. If a
person gets a concussion they won't be able to run for some time. A good treatment for a
concussion is to get a lot of rest and don't try to do anything that will make it worst. Most of the
time the players don't rest they be too quick to try to get back to what they were doing that when
they do come back then they probably are out once again.
Basketball has as many injuries as football and they both be having injuries that are very serious
and could end someone's career. When basketball was first created they used to get injured a lot
during the intense games. Most of the time it doesn't end their careers because they are having a lot
of money to do physical therapy to get back to playing on the court. Sometimes it's best for them to
just stay out for the amount of time that they are supposed to so that they will have the right amount
of time to heal and won't get injured quickly and will most likely play better then they played before
the injury. Most of the time they have to train a lot to

Descriptive Essay About A Basketball Court
I headed out to meet with my neighbor and friend, Vince. We had a long day ahead of us. Starting
at 9:30 A.M., we had head off to the soccer complex. With our cleats and balls in hand, we took off
to the destination. I thought it was kind of odd how I ended up training people, who are older than
me when I was 12. After many hours of training we had head back to our neighborhood to take a
break. A couple hours later he shows up suggesting we play somebasketball. When we got to the
court, there are some of our other friends. Before you know it, we were deep in competition, until the
sun had fallen, and the moon had conquered the sky.
My favorite place contained that same basketball court. It is situated in my old neighborhood.
The mini "park" consisted was consisted of the micro castle, a picnic table, a pine tree, and a
basketball court. The castle had 3 slides, 2 straight and one curved. It had tall standing yellow
poles greeted by a sloped green roof at the top. It was situated in a sunken rock pit bordered by
wearing and aging wood. It wasn't special, and it certainly didn't stand out. Next to it, situated on
red brick, was a white and red stone table. The court had changed slightly over time. The old clear
plastic and metal hoop was replaced by a cheaper, but more durable all plastic hoop. The pole was
height adjustable, which had caused some oddly anti–climactic challenges to be conceived.
It was the middle of day, and the sun was burning hotly. We had decided to leave the clubhouse to
play basketball. Even though we were mostly around 8–10 years old competition burned between my
friends and me. Since I was used to using a ten–foot hoop, I suggested that we raise the hoop up.
That itself birthed another competition, one of strength. The task was to lift the hoop the highest. I
noticed how my competition was gaining on me, but I remained the victor. We ended up launching
multiple competitions, like shooting or two on two tournaments. Usually, I won.
When I was smaller, I used to play outside a lot. Summer was my second favorite season to play
during. The cold breeze and the hot sun felt liberating and relaxing. Sometimes we would go out to
the mini "park" with a basketball. If we got bored, we would grab

Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York, and when he was still a
toddler, his parents moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. Jordan played baseball, basketball, and
football as a child. He loved baseball, but his love for basketball started growing when his older
brother, Larry, kept beating him in one–on–one pick up games. Because of this, Jordan was
determined to become a better basketball player. Jordan played basketball for Laney High School in
Wilmington, North Carolina. Ironically, he was cut from the varsity team his sophmore year. Instead

having to prove something as a basketball player, and he felt it was time to step away from the
court. Jordan sought a new challenge to play professional baseball. He signed a minor league
contract with the Chicago White Sox. He was assigned to the Birmingham Barons, and played an
outfielder position. His presence in the minors grew large numbers in attendance, but Jordan's
batting was uncharacteristic of his athletic skills. In his first summer with the Barons, he batted
.202 with 114 strikeouts in 127 games. On March 18, 1995, Jordan announced that he would be
playing basketball again. He ended his short baseball career and rejoined the Bulls near the end of
the 1994–1995 regular season, eventually losing to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference

basketball player to ever play the game, and that he would be even greater in the season to come.

Basketball and my life
I have throughout my whole life been playing sports. I still play basketball competitively and now
it's at the university level. Basketball though was not my first love when it came to playing sports.
It has though become my true focus since junior high school. Coming from Canada everybody
plays hockey. Its almost as if as soon as you learn to walk you learn how to skate. Whether it is at the
recreation centre or at the shinny rink around the corner everyone plays. Eventually I abandoned
hockey to play basketball which I have done so for the last twelve years of my life and hopefully a
few more years into the future.

I was the starting centre for the Alberta 15 and under provincial team. Once this happened I started
to receive better coaching to help hone my skills. The most important thing that happened was my
passion for the game flourished. By my junior year I had became a first team all star at nationals for
basketball and helped lead my team to second in the country. At this time it began to look like that I
would just have a good high school career but also a chance to try and prove myself in university.
My senior year proved to be my toughest year as I tried to decide where I wanted to continue with
my dream of playing the sport I love. All of a sudden I had schools from western Canada all to the
way to the Atlantic trying to get me to play at their school. During this year I received my greatest
achievement yet when I was named a starter for the first ever adidas all Canadian all–star game.
When I was younger I realized that the NBA was almost too high a bar to reach I decided that the
NCAA would be a great achievement. Eventually that opportunity presented itself to me in the
form of two schools. NAU and Montana St. expressed interest and I struggled to decide where I
wanted to spend the next four or possibly five years of my life. All of the people that I had met

Basketball : The Game Of Basketball
The game of basketball started in December 1891. Basketball was founded by a Canadian born
instructor named James Naismith at the Young Men's Christian Association training school in
Springfield, Massachusetts. The YMCA developed rules for the game which were later used in high
schools, colleges, and settlement houses. The game grew bigger and popular in a lot of areas.
Particularly in urban areas, where games were sponsored by schools, social clubs, churches, and
companies. Colleges sponsored tournaments to attract players to their school. The best players
around the world would attend these tournaments and invitational meetings in hope to earn
scholarships or enter semipro leagues around American cities. Not only did men play the game of
basketball but women, particularly in the south, received similar opportunities to play basketball for
sponsored teams. Throughout the 20 centaury, basketball was a primary sport in inner–city
playgrounds and urban recreational communities. College basketball was the main form of
organized basketball beginning in the 1930s. The American basketball league began in the 1920s.
As professional as the ABL was, it could not compete with college basketball. However the

My Experience With Playing Basketball
To most basketball is just a game but to me it is so much more. Playing basketball for over 15
years has taught me a lot about life and myself. Whether there is a crowd of people watching me
or I am the only one in the gym, once I step on to the court my mind becomes free. There is
something about an empty court, headphones in my ears, and the ball in my hands that makes me
like I'm right at home. I met some of my closest friends for the first time on the basketball court. My
coaches did not just teach me skills on the court but they also acted as father figures in my life.
Playing basketball has taught me some of my greatest life lessons. The basketball court has been
my second home. Not because I spend countless hours there but because it gives me an
opportunity to express myself and escape from reality all while being with people I consider family.
I first began playing basketball when I was just four years old. My dad signed me up to play in the
city league. The age cut off for the league was July 1st. My birthday was not until July 17th so my
dad had to lie to get me onto a team. He said that I was born on May 17th while he was signing me
up for the league. While I do not have very vivid memories of playing for the first time, I do know
that is was something I had wanted to try ever since my older brother began playing. My brother,
Chris, is two years older than me. I have always looked up to him and still do this day.
Growing up my brother and I would

Informative Essay On Basketball
Basketball has gotten many young African Americans off the streets and out of gangs and drugs.
Before Allen Iverson hit double digits he was on the streets past 12 am or trying to fit in with the
older guys. Then basketball would take up most of his time so he could not have time to be on the
streets. In my first paragraph I will explain what is basketball. In my second paragraph I will explain
the rules of basketball. In my final paragraph I am going to explain how to become a professional
or Overseas player. Basketball players, pros and legends all around the world knew the following
three what is basketball and the history, the rules and the training of basketball and any sport in
general. If they didn't know those three things they wouldn't be who they are today. So when it
comes to basketball skill out ways talent in a long shot.
Basketball is a team sport. TEAM means Together Everyone Achieves More. Basketball is a game

Do what you do we'll, Get there early, and hustle. One big mistake you can make is try to impress
the coach by doing things that are outside of your skill set. If you are a good rebounder, grab
every rebound. If you are a shooter, shoot when you are open. If you are a good finisher, attack
the basket when the lane is open. If you are a good ball handler, make simple passes and simple
moves. Getting there early shows the coach that you care and that he can depend on you to be on
time to practice and games. Also Hustle, Hustle, Hustle is the main thing they look at. There is no
excuse for any player on this topic. You just have to commit and develop that mentality. When the
ball is on the floor, dive for the ball. Box out on every shot that goes up. Sprint on the fast break.
Sprint to spots on the floor on defense. This is why you see who arent sos killed on teams. They're

Basketball Essay
Basketball
Basketball was created a simple game. The primary objective was to place a ball, without dribbling,
into a peach basket. However, like Darwin's theory of man, basketball has evolved into the most
exciting exhibition of athletic ability. Basketball has seen many rule changes, because of the
increasing ability of the players. Basketball is a melting pot, where black, white, and European
people excel. This is a sport that is color–blind. This sport requires complete control over one's body
and mind. Pure strength is required to fight through opposing teams picks, and to gain position for
rebounds.
Speed is necessary to create space for a shot attempt or a pass. Concentration is vital to dribbling a
ball up the court, with an...show more content...
He is from the ghetto, and ESPN exploits this dark horse image. Along with his "Playground
style", that ruins years of coaching fundamentals, he is involved in a thuggish lifestyle.
Iverson, and many other players, are still young men who participate in smoking weed, beating
women, and multiple other illegal activities constantly. ESPN receives the police reports and bleeds
the information to the public. Hoops Junkies, like myself, hear the information and we form
opinions. Contrary to logical reasoning, ESPN makes me cheer a player for these normally
condemnable acts. Latrell Sprewell attempted to asphyxiate his coach, and less that six months later
he is praised like a man who found the cure for cancer. Player's "Realness" lies in direct
proportion with their lifestyle.
American media wants the bad boys, because there is a more interesting behind them. With this
going on, youths across the world are feed the message smoke weed, beat women, and most
importantly forget the team concept and dunk the rock. ESPN is not the only source of blame for
the non–existent morality of basketball, but I can directly link it to the American public's warped
views and opinions of the professional basketball player.
Since the induction of the three–point arc, basketball has changed. Players reason, why settle for a

How Basketball Is A Sport Essay
The word cool is valued differently by each individual as everyone has a different view on objects or
thoughts in life. How cool is defined is basically something that one cherishes or has passion for
as it could vary from playing sports to having a pet rock. Playing basketball is cool because it is a
sport for anyone who has passion for the game as each player holds a different position on the court
allowing a team to function well. Not only is basketball a sport for anyone, it also acts as a stress
relief. Basketball allows individuals to be put in a relaxed state of mind allowing their minds to
clear up from the stress that they may possibly had to endure throughout their day. The definition
of cool could change as one progresses in their life because their enjoyment for certain things may
change as they age. Unlike other sports, basketball is life and it is a sport meant for any age
groups because it does not require a lot of physical strength. Basketball is more of a mental sport
because each individual would have to push themselves to become better each day by doing drills
to brush up their fundamentals. A passionate basketball individual will go through hell just to
improve a slightest bit because basketball is life for everyone for finds passion in the game. For
example, Kobe Bryant, a Los Angeles Lakers Legend, spent most of his life playing professional
basketball and Michael Jordan, a living basketball legend, even had his own brand under Nike. Both

5 Paragraph Essay On Basketball

  • 1. My Goals Of Basketball : My Success In Basketball Many people take up basketball thinking that it is easy, after all how hard can it be throwing a ball into a hoop? In the sport of basketball it looks harder than it seems, you need skills. Every human in the world has at least one goal in their life. For example to become a famous athlete, singer, dancer, doctor, writer, and "etc". We all as humans have goals, my goal is to get better in basketball. So what can I do to get better just sit around all day and just wait for it to come to me? No. I have to practice I wanna be able to make more shots than everyone else, because that is the point of the of sport basketball, who ever score more points wins. We all have goals and we obviously want that goal, but how do we obtain that goal? We should set goals that motivates us. When we set goals for ourselves, it is important that they motivate us. We should set smart goals, set goals writing them down, and make an action plan, and stick with it. My goal to become a better basketball player is to exercise everyday, eating healthy, doing drills, and practicing my shots. When I wanted to get better In basketball I would write down my weaknesses in my journal and work on it everyday that is what I told myself I would do, but I did not because I did not believe or have faith in myself. My experience with basketball began in late July of 2005 when my cousin came to stay with us; my mom informed me that I would have to take my cousin Mo to the basketball court in our neighborhood. • 2. History of Basketball Essay The game of basketball is recognizable high school or the NBA. The sport is very popular and is played worldwide. Everyone may also know the sport from some names of basketball stars. Maybe the names Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, or Carmelo Anthony ring a bell. They are all outstanding players of the game and have a significant understanding of how the game is played. Basketball has changed alot overtime and has become one of Americas most played sports. It takes time to really learn the ins and outs of the game and also to get a good handle on things. The game of basketball started in Springfield Massachusetts and has now become on of the most popular sports nationally known. The game was designed...show more content... He got to thinking and started combining ideas from other games to make the game of what it is known today as basketball. Naismith invented this game in 1891 (Faurschou). He decided to start making little notes of his ideas. He was going to use a slightly large and light ball. Since the game was made to play indoors the players would have no need to run with the ball. Also players couldn't hit or strike other players. After Naismith came up with the basic rules he decided what the goal of the game would be. The goals were first going to be placed low but Naismith decided that if the other team were defending it, it would be nearly impossible to make a goal. This is how the idea of the basketball hoop came about. He decided to place the goal over the player's heads. The goals would start as peach baskets but would later evolve into hoops (Padwe). The hoops would be made of iron and a braided cord netting to verify the ball was going through the hoop (Peterson).Naismith had his game ready but needed a way to start it. He thought of several different ways but wanted to eliminate roughness. He decided to take part of rugby when the ref throws the ball in between the players. Naismith said the ball would be thrown in an upward motion in between both of the centers for each team and this would be the start of the game. The game of basketball was now ready but just needed people to start it. The kids at the YMCA training center started Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Become a Good Basketball Player Essay There are numerous different steps required to be a good basketball player. There are different aspects of the game that can drastically change the tempo of the game. Of course shooting the ball is important, but improving dribbling, defensive, and passing skills are also important. A players ability in all phases of the game is what makes them a good player. The first thing to practice on is dribbling. Dribbling is one of the most crucial skills to have. Good dribbling enables the player to move around more and get to places quicker. The best way to improve this skill is to dribble 2 basketballs, one in each hand. This task will be especially hard for the secondary hand, but improvement should be noticed within a few moments. Once the...show more content... To be a good basketball player, good passing is required. Good passing rewards the team with more control over the game. Once the player has learned the basics of passing, they can work on the more advanced ways of distributing the basketball. Passing between the legs or behind your back is a tough technique to conquer. However once these tools are learned, they can be used for better passes and to fake out the defense. A good offense is nice to have, but good defense lowers the other teams chance to score. Good defense also takes the pressure off the team when on offense. The team won't feel as if they have to score on every possession. Defense is hard to train, and a partner is required. The main thing to do on defense is to stay between the person being guarded and the goal. A good defensive player needs to be quick and agile, but also have good endurance. Once the player has learned how to defend, they can become a bit more aggressive. The player should soon reach out to interrupt dribbles and steal the ball, or try block shots and passes to create turnovers. Shooting the basketball is the easiest thing to improve. The best way to enhance shooting is to keep practicing. Better shooting greatly increases the teams score and gives the opponents a hard time of catching up. Once a player feels their shot is good enough, they can attempt 3–point shots. There is a line pretty far away from the goal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Narrative Essay On Basketball Walking onto the court almost every time was definitely a mix of excitement but also terrifying. Basketball is a team sport so the amount of pressure to perform for your team was very nerve racking. Although no one can perform perfectly at all time who doesn't want to play as well as you can in every game. Although every time walking onto the court gave some type of emotion, I had never had a wave of emotion hit me like it did the first time I stepped on to Rocky's court. I was especially nervous but truly excited for the fact I was about to prove myself that I could continue my passion at the next level. I had met the team on my visit and I found out how great all of the girl were, but after I signed a new kind of anxiety set in. I was so nervous to fit in and be accepted by my new team. I was also so afraid to let the coaches down. When I got here and started practice I found out I was worried for nothing. I was accepted by my team and was not letting my performance anxiety get to me. I decided I was just going to play my game and not worry so much. I am so thankful that my worrying was for nothing and I feel like I am really going to enjoy myself here not just in basketball but also in the social aspect. While I was reading The Art of Fielding I felt myself connecting to Henry the most. Why I was relating to henry was due to him not being the best of the field but knowing the game and his position so extremely well. Henry is also from a small–town such I am so I really connected to the feeling. Although throughout the story he started to allow himself to get performance anxiety. Learning more about it will allow me to be more aware of the feeling and deal with is before it becomes an issue. Henry was very dedicated to baseball, he not only played the game he also spent so much time studying the game to improve his performance. He has a love for baseball that is indescribable and that is why I connected with him more in the beginning. Henry Skrimshander was just a small town boy who was playing baseball who really had so clear future ahead of him until one day he proved himself to a college player who believed he was the next big thing. • 5. Descriptive Essay About Basketball I can recall this day unquestionably. It was a bright summer day, the trees looked taller and the daily breeze was magnificent. I had just woken up from a nap, when I received a text message from my basketball coach. It read, "Hey girls, let's get together and go hoop at the rec today." I read the message and I was amped with excitement. It had been months since I had actually played basketball with all girls. I missed it so much. I tried to stay busy to pass the time, so I begin to clean. My apartment was a mess and I knew that I would be cleaning for a while. I washed the dishes in what I can imagine was one of the happiest ways ever. I was actually singing while washing the dishes. This was very new for me. I even vacuumed the floor...show more content... I let my teammates know that I called next after the guys that were sitting. Everyone seemed excited, my coach had the biggest smile on her face. After about 15 minutes of shooting around it was time for us to play. The time had finally come, I thought to myself. We walked onto the court and established who was guarding who. We were ready to play. I looked around to see who I was going to guard, and as I looked around in a quick 360 glance it seemed as though all the guys that we were about to play had this annoyed look on their faces. I even seen an eyeroll from one of the guys. I wasn't really sure what it was about until the game actually started. They weren't taking us serious at all. There was a ton of goofy passes , and tricks. It seemed like they were trying to embarrass us or something, but this ignorance did not stop us. We kept playing hard and begin beating the boys by about 5 points. Once they realized this they began to get serious and play harder. While I was running down the court for a fast break I heard one of their friends on the sideline say "Hell no." I believe he was referring to the fact that we were winning. He obviously didn 't want that to happen because he would have to play against us, and God forbid girls playing basketball with guys; oh no! Eventually, the game was over. There is the conflict theory perspective, the symbolic–interaction perspective and the structural–functionalist perspective. From a conflict paradigm point of view, the essay would focus on gender and how the assumption that girls lack the same level of strength and stamina as men. The WNBA (Women NationalBasketball League) doesn't get the same amount of respect as the males do in the NBA (National Basketball League). How does playing basketball for a school can help a student academically in high school from a structural–functionalist perspective? You notice that playing basketball for a high school can help physically, mentally, socially, and academically. Not only does playing basketball for a school not only build friendships between team members, but could also give them that competitive edge to become better than who they are physically and mentally. For a student to continue playing basketball for a school, he'll have to stay in shape for the season and be able to keep the grades above average. Academically, at acollege level, basketball is a good and bad thing. Majority of universities pay attention to the student skill level at the sport rather than his grades, just to ensure the schools success. Paragraph 5 = From a structural–functionalist perspective, you realize that by the game of basketball, you can build friendships easily just by having something in common like loving the game. You also notice how job opportunities can be given by playing the sport or becoming a trainer in the game and help the athletics stay in shape. By having more job opportunities, it expands the economy. From a young age, basketball can not only help you academically, but help you get into colleges. • 7. Basketball And Basketball : My Life Of Basketball Taking a retrospective look at my life history, as a child I recall having all this energy and being very hands on. As a child, we did not have much to play with. So, anything that I was able to lay my hands on was a big payoff. My mother bought us a basketball where she thought me how to shoot the basketball. At the time, we did not have the money to pay for a basketball goal. My mother said that she had an idea. So, my mother said, "let's go to the store when we get back you will play." We went to the store and we came back with a milk crate where we cut the bottom of it out and we hung it on the telephone pole in front of our house. For me this was a challenge even though I had a lot of energy and was super motivated to play. It was hard shooting the basketball in the milk crate. I believe shooting the basketball in the milk crate helped in many different ways. Thanks to great idea my mother came up with, to this day basketball is my life. It a tradition that I pass on to my kids. Basketball was a tool for me as it was a sport that my mother taught me to keep me out of trouble. Basketball taught me team work as well as communicating with others as well as working with other. Basketball is an activity I consistently enjoy engaging in with my friends and family. I have three boys and one girl and they all love basketball. Basketball has taken over our house. Our three boys play basketball for the school, so we as a family attend to all the games. Basketball for me is not only a hobby its where I release stress. For example, playing basketball with other team mates gives me a chance to get rid of all negative energy that has piled up throughout the week. Nature and nurture shaping one's character. Nature and nurture affect one's character in countless ways. In my daily life, I've come across people on the basketball court as well as interacted with some at work that have a different idea about how to approach issues in life. Taking in to consideration nurture there are some parents that believe their children should grow up and be leaders and to demonstrate it in their lives. • 8. Basketball as it is known today invented by Physical Education Instructor Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in the town of Springfield, Massachusetts. He invented it to condition young athletes during cold months and for it being an less injury prone sport than football. Why is basketball good for either the players or spectators? There are ways to show why basketball is a good sport for either player or spectators, by showing facts and experiences me and the people encountered playing basketball. Basketball is the best sport due to its rules, facts, health and fitness benefits, and people's experiences. Basketball is the best sport because it can be played with two to five players each side, and also a sport to play with friends and other competitors. According to Total Sportek, Basketball is the second most played game in the world. It had at least a billion followers and is a major sport in USA with NBA generating over 4.75 billion dollars per year in revenue. • 10. Descriptive Essay On A Basketball Game Score! "Lee County takes another point in the volleyball tournament" says the announcer. The team starts to fall apart as we lose our game towards Lee County High School home of the Lady Trojans. The score is 24–14 as we fall behind. While i'm sitting on the bench waiting to sub in with my other teammate I began to feel nervous. What if I mess up the game for everyone. "7 for 40 you may go." says the Ref. I start to play with my hands which is a sign of me getting nervous about something. All the players in Lee County are very serious and aggressive, which is a good thing just not to the extent they are. The whistle begins to blow for the girl on the other team to serve the ball. Right when she hits the ball I noticed the ball was heading straight towards me "Mine mine mine!" I said. My arms extended out into the playing position and I passed the ball to Nicky which is our setter. The setter on the team has a hard position because they constantly hear us call for the setter to set us a ball to hit and they have to be able to get to the ball to receive a second hit. Unfortunately Lee County got the winning point to this game but the next time we play them we will have the winning point. Once we returned to the high school my mom was waiting on me in the car. "How was the game? Did you win?" she asked me. The more I thought about the game it upsetted me even more. "Well we lost." I replied. The whole ride home was silent except the sound of the radio talking about all the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

At the beginning of basketball, they used soccer balls before actual basketballs were created. They also did not dribble a lot at the beginning of basketball, they would catch the ball and take a couple of steps to slow down or stop. Since then the game of basketball has changed greatly, no one is no longer playing in cages with wires, and the game requires a lot of athleticism and ability. • 12. Descriptive Essay About A Basketball Court I headed out to meet with my neighbor and friend, Vince. We had a long day ahead of us. Starting at 9:30 A.M., we had head off to the soccer complex. With our cleats and balls in hand, we took off to the destination. I thought it was kind of odd how I ended up training people, who are older than me when I was 12. After many hours of training we had head back to our neighborhood to take a break. A couple hours later he shows up suggesting we play somebasketball. When we got to the court, there are some of our other friends. Before you know it, we were deep in competition, until the sun had fallen, and the moon had conquered the sky. My favorite place contained that same basketball court. It is situated in my old neighborhood. The mini "park" consisted was consisted of the micro castle, a picnic table, a pine tree, and a basketball court. The castle had 3 slides, 2 straight and one curved. It had tall standing yellow poles greeted by a sloped green roof at the top. It was situated in a sunken rock pit bordered by wearing and aging wood. It wasn't special, and it certainly didn't stand out. Next to it, situated on red brick, was a white and red stone table. The court had changed slightly over time. The old clear plastic and metal hoop was replaced by a cheaper, but more durable all plastic hoop. The pole was height adjustable, which had caused some oddly anti–climactic challenges to be conceived. It was the middle of day, and the sun was burning hotly. We had decided to leave the clubhouse to play basketball. Even though we were mostly around 8–10 years old competition burned between my friends and me. Since I was used to using a ten–foot hoop, I suggested that we raise the hoop up. That itself birthed another competition, one of strength. The task was to lift the hoop the highest. I noticed how my competition was gaining on me, but I remained the victor. We ended up launching multiple competitions, like shooting or two on two tournaments. Usually, I won. When I was smaller, I used to play outside a lot. Summer was my second favorite season to play during. The cold breeze and the hot sun felt liberating and relaxing. Sometimes we would go out to the mini "park" with a basketball. If we got bored, we would grab Get more content on HelpWriting.net

These events eventually caused Jordan to lose his motivation and the sense of having to prove something as a basketball player, and he felt it was time to step away from the court. Jordan sought a new challenge to play professional baseball. He signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox. He was assigned to the Birmingham Barons, and played an outfielder position. His presence in the minors grew large numbers in attendance, but Jordan's batting was uncharacteristic of his athletic skills. In his first summer with the Barons, he batted .202 with 114 strikeouts in 127 games. On March 18, 1995, Jordan announced that he would be playing basketball again. He ended his short baseball career and rejoined the Bulls near the end of the 1994–1995 regular season, eventually losing to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Jordan once again had something to prove to the world, that he was still the greatest basketball player to ever play the game, and that he would be even greater in the season to come. Whether there is a crowd of people watching me or I am the only one in the gym, once I step on to the court my mind becomes free. There is something about an empty court, headphones in my ears, and the ball in my hands that makes me like I'm right at home. I met some of my closest friends for the first time on the basketball court. My coaches did not just teach me skills on the court but they also acted as father figures in my life. Playing basketball has taught me some of my greatest life lessons. The basketball court has been my second home. Not because I spend countless hours there but because it gives me an opportunity to express myself and escape from reality all while being with people I consider family. I first began playing basketball when I was just four years old. My dad signed me up to play in the city league. The age cut off for the league was July 1st. My birthday was not until July 17th so my dad had to lie to get me onto a team. He said that I was born on May 17th while he was signing me up for the league. While I do not have very vivid memories of playing for the first time, I do know that is was something I had wanted to try ever since my older brother began playing.
