Biology & Physical Science
What is a procedure?
 A procedure is a method or process for getting
  things done.

 Examples of common procedures:
 Standing in line at the grocery store
   Driving
   Opening a lock on a locker
Why have classroom procedures?
 Procedures are a way of life!
 We have procedures in life so that people can function
in society knowing the acceptable and efficient ways
  people do things.
 There are also procedures in this classroom.
 These procedures are here so that you always know
  what to do.
 Less confusion = More success!!
Entering the Classroom:
 Please enter the room walking straight to your desk.
 When you reach your desk, immediately get out your
supplies: pencil or pen, paper, science notebooks.
 Immediately begin working on your Bell Work
  assignment for the day
 Bell Work is always listed on the board in the same
  place.
Bell Work Procedure
 Every day you will have Bell Work to complete.
 Don’t wait for the bell, start working immediately when you
get to your desk. (you will have 5-8 minutes to complete the
    assignment.)
 The Bell Work assignment is always listed on the board in
    the same location.
 Do your Bell Work assignment in your science notebook,
    unless you are directed otherwise
 When you have finished Bell Work, be ready to discuss it as
    a class.
 If you finish early, you may work on another assignment
quietly until the class is ready.
Procedure: Give Me Five
 To get your attention I will:
1. Stand in front of the classroom with my hand up.

 You will:
1. Freeze.
2. Turn and face me; pay attention; keep your eyes on
   me.
3. Be ready for instruction. I will have something to say.
Restroom Procedure
1. Only ask to go during seat work time. (NOT during a lecture,
   video, or other presentation)
2. Raise your hand with one pinky up- or ask me quietly, do NOT
   disturb the entire class.
3. If I say yes, sign your name and time on the bathroom
clipboard, take the pass and go quickly and quietly.
4. If I say no, no whining!

*Only ONE student may go at a time.

*Students who abuse restroom privileges will lose this privilege!
Abuses: Going too often (more than once a week); going to other
places besides the restroom; stopping and talking to others along
the way; etc…
Sharpening Pencil Procedure
 BEST solutions:
 Bring more than one pencil to class each day
 Bring a small pencil sharpener and use it at your desk

If you did neither of those:
   1. Raise your pencil in the air.
   2. I will nod indicating that you may get out of your seat
      to sharpen your pencil OR
   3. I will trade pencils and give you one already sharpened.
Procedure for Textbooks
Book Procedure:
1. Before class begins, take the book from the bookshelf that
has the same number as your desk.
2. If you cannot find your matching number, let me know.
3. In the last 3 minutes of class, place your book back on the
bookshelf (try to put them in numerical order).

*Biology* We will be using the large Biology books in class. If
you need a Pacemaker Biology book to use for your recovery
unit you must check one out from me or my TA before class
begins, or after the lesson.
End of Class Procedure
1. When the bell rings, remain in your seat.
2. The teacher will say, “Have a nice day!”
3. Students will then pack up all their belongings.
4. Students will turn in work as they walk toward the
     door.
5. Students will WALK out of the classroom in an
     orderly fashion.
