The purpose of the program is to familiarize staff with the on-line educational resources available to them throught the NBH Homepage.

The Learning Center’s homepage.
2. Explain the educational leave process and distinguish hospital
requirements from union/exempt requirements.
3. Describe how NBH’s on-line educational resources can be utilized
throughout the hospital.
Purpose
The purpose of this course is to familiarize NBH staff with the
many on-line educational resources available through the NBH
splashpage and TLC homepage. Additionally, this course is
meant to equip staff with tools that can be utilized on the
units and help enhance the quality of staff performance.

2. UpToDate® is an evidence-based, physician-authored
clinical decision support resource which hospital staff can
reference to make the right point-of-care decisions. More
than 5,700 world-renowned physician authors, editors
and peer reviewers use a rigorous editorial process to
synthesize the most recent medical information into
trusted, evidence-based recommendations that are
proven to improve patient care and quality.
The UpToDate icon can be found under The
Learning Center link toward the bottom of the
right column on the NBH homepage. Here,
staff can search any medical-related topic. In
the image below, you can see that search
topics can be narrowed down to information
specifically for adults and patients.

3. The On-line Nutrition Manual Link is
located toward the top of the right
column on the NBH homepage under
the Strategic Plan box.
On-Line Nutrition Care Manual
• Conditions: This section includes
an overview and specific nutrition
recommendations for various
medical conditions
• Normal Nutrition: This content
should only be used for healthy
adults
• Older Adult Nutrition: This section
can be applied to the elderly
The client education
handouts in the NCM are
not intended to substitute
for nutrition counseling.
The information is meant
to serve as a general
nutritional guideline.
The calculators are useful
when performing a
nutrition assessment or
planning nutrition
intervention.
The NCM Formulary
contains the nutrition
information about types of
oral and tube feeding
nutritional solutions, used
with permission of the
manufacturers.
This section of the
NCM contains more
information for your
practice including
the Nutrition Care
Process, how to
order nutrition
prescriptions and
medical nutrition
therapy.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Manual
(NCM) is an Internet-based diet manual and professional practice
manual for health professionals. NCM gives you online access to
evidence- and knowledge-based nutrition information that keeps
you current and compliant.

4. The Learning Center Homepage link can be found toward
the bottom of the right column, directly above the
UpToDate icon on the NBH homepage. Here you can find
links for educational leave resources, professional
development courses, group facilitation resources,
available websites for all staff and a calendar that lists all
of the hospital’s monthly educational programs.

5. Under the Library Databases link, you will
find access to the State Library of Ohio
website and the OhioLINK website. If you
click on the OhioLINK icon, it will direct
you to the OhioLINK homepage. You can
also click on the Academic Search
Complete link, which will take you directly
to a search engine.

6. Important Points to Remember When Searching in OhioLINK

When searching for an item in
OhioLINK you will come across many
messages asking for your institution.
Always select the State Library of Ohio.
There is only one branch.
If you come across the message for which listing
you would like to search within, choose the
listing of OhioLINK provided research
databases.
When choosing an academic
database, be sure to click on the
“off-campus url” link.
You will need your State of Ohio library
card number to authenticate that you
are a state employee. If you have
misplaced or need to order another
card, contact The Learning Center.

7. Under the Available Websites link, NBH staff can find a listing of
websites that can be accessed anywhere on NBH grounds by ALL
staff. If staff have suggestions for reputable websites that can be
added to the list, a request can be made to The Learning Center.
The Learning Center staff will then review the website with the IT
Department and HEC for approval.

8. The new Group Facilitation
Resources link offers staff
different workbooks, ideas and
tools to help foster a more
engaged environment on the
units. These resources can be
downloaded and printed for staff
use.
