Digestion and absorption of
lipids
37
FAT DIGESTION
• Fat digestion begins in the small intestine.(minor amount in oral
cavity)
• Lingual lipase catalyzes the triglycerides into partial glycerides and
free fatty acids(FFA)
• Gastric lipase activates at a PH of 4-5,so no digestion in stomach.
• In duodenum,1 molecule of TGL is hydrolysed to 1 molecule of MGL
and 2 molecule of FFA
• Bile helps in fat digestion through emulsification of fat droplets
38
FAT ABSORPTION
• Large fat droplets are emulsified into monoglycerides and fatty acids
by bile salts and are packed into Micelle.
• Micelles are taken up by the alimentary canal (jejunum and
ileum)where absorption take place by a process called pinocytosis.
• The fat fragments are then reassembled into triglycerides and packed
into chylomicrons.
• Chylomicrons, exocytose from the enterocyte to the central lacteal of
villus, passing to lymphatic channels and ultimately reach the
subclavian vein 39

HOW TO ASSESS LAKSHAN
67
Vatanulomana - Following points are to interrogated :
a) Adhovayu prvriti (passing of flatus)-
• Whether it is sagandha or nirgandha;sashabda/nihshabda ?
• It occurs how many times in a day?
• How many times during passage of stool ?
68
Udgara (belching) -
- Ashuddha udgara after 2 hr/4 hr/6 hr ?

-Just after taking meal?
-Even by the smell of the food ?
-During digestion of food ?
- In any time of day ?
70
Adhmana, Anaha, Atopa – Normal during digestion of Sneha but
persists for a longer time then following questions-
• Whether deepan pachan were done properly or not?
• Whether food after snehapana is laghu or not ?
71
Snehodvega –
This lakshan is not found in first 2-3 days, after that it is
found according to manasika prakriti of the patients.

Assesed by inspection ,appears within 2-3 days of snehapana
purishasya avipakvata-During formation of stool, few metabolic
activities take place. In this case, fecal matter does not undergo such type of
paka ,resulting in unformed ,watery stool.
73
Kasa and shvasa pravriti - It is due to not attaining of
vatanulomana during snehapana

Assessed by sparsha pariksha .
The skin becomes softer by snehapana
Absence of gatra mardava is kharta.
76
Snigdhta- Assesed by sparsh pariksha.
It may be done by making a scratch mark
over the body by nail or pointed material.
If white scratch mark appears and persists
for a long time, then it may be said that no

CONCLUSION
Snehapana plays a major role as a poorva karma to shodhana
(vamana or virechana) procedures, hence in almost all the
shodhana arha conditions snehapana is advised. The entire
procedure of shodhana depends upon the proper mobilization of
dosha from the shakha to kostha which is achieved with the help
of snehana and swedana. That makes changes in vitiated doshas
to mobilize them without trouble, and thus easily expelled from
the body tissues without harming the body.

  • 38. FAT DIGESTION • Fat digestion begins in the small intestine.(minor amount in oral cavity) • Lingual lipase catalyzes the triglycerides into partial glycerides and free fatty acids(FFA) • Gastric lipase activates at a PH of 4-5,so no digestion in stomach. • In duodenum,1 molecule of TGL is hydrolysed to 1 molecule of MGL and 2 molecule of FFA • Bile helps in fat digestion through emulsification of fat droplets 38
  • 39. FAT ABSORPTION • Large fat droplets are emulsified into monoglycerides and fatty acids by bile salts and are packed into Micelle. • Micelles are taken up by the alimentary canal (jejunum and ileum)where absorption take place by a process called pinocytosis. • The fat fragments are then reassembled into triglycerides and packed into chylomicrons. • Chylomicrons, exocytose from the enterocyte to the central lacteal of villus, passing to lymphatic channels and ultimately reach the subclavian vein 39

  • 92. CONCLUSION Snehapana plays a major role as a poorva karma to shodhana (vamana or virechana) procedures, hence in almost all the shodhana arha conditions snehapana is advised. The entire procedure of shodhana depends upon the proper mobilization of dosha from the shakha to kostha which is achieved with the help of snehana and swedana. That makes changes in vitiated doshas to mobilize them without trouble, and thus easily expelled from the body tissues without harming the body. 92
