EHLE - Empowering Health Learning for elderly Seniors actifs : adoptez la saine habitude CCAS – Local social unit Final Conference – EHLE project – 12 November 2009 – Venice Kristine Stempien – European project coordinator – UNCCAS In brief : a CCAS is the “social tool” of the municipality (by law, the president of the structure is the mayor) The “Local Unit” work at the municipality level as a coordinator of social activities – in partnership with all local stakeholders (Local NGOs, volunteers …). The municipality level : an opportunity to be at the heart of the social needs, problems or activities within the population. Population concerned : disabled, elderly people, young… Its main objective : “The wellbeing and equalities among its population” Legal obligations / Optional activities (culture, intergenerational activities, wellbeing, and so on ..)

EHLE - Empowering Health Learning for elderly Seniors actifs : adoptez la saine habitude CCAS – ageing population – elderly Final Conference – EHLE project – 12 November 2009 – Venice Kristine Stempien – European project coordinator – UNCCAS CCAS work on a daily basis to Improve the well-being of elderly people, to preserve their autonomy, their social activities but mainly to answer to their Social needs … Social needs includes : The person as an individual : Her abilities, background, life, health, social problems, personal situation, environment … The person as a physical body / and emotional health : which allow her to do things or not The person as part of the whole society : the need to be recognize, known, and so on All this factors are part of the principle of “autonomy”

Keep a social link) Coordination of the stakeholders in the field of elderly Dissemination of information to the elderly and their relatives (rights, existing activities, and so on.)

UNCCAS and CCAS are convinced that it is a necessity to coordinate the social and health services for the elderly people. Health education, health promotion among elderly is very important. It gives the elderly and professionals working with elderly the knowledge’s to make the good choices about their own life, to empower their own health and to develop or maintain their social activities Social and health services can contribute to these objectives. The EHLE project and its training toolkit will be useful and will provide one of the multiple answers for Healthy ageing, in 4 countries and we hope in all the European countries too
