Create a class website as a home base for everything you do & want to share in your classroom! Google Sites makes it intuitive & easy to set up a beautiful jump-off point for students, families & community to see announcements, homework, assignments, digital resources and everything amazing happening in your classroom!

Google Sites: Create a Class Home Base!

  1. 1. 1- What’s your plan? Purpose? Audience? Organization? Pick & choose! Your site could contain... ● Syllabus ● Contact information [allow students to get in touch] ● Calendar & class Announcements [share what’s happening] ● Shoutouts [Recognize hard work & achievement] ● Study Guides [Promote study & work habits] ● Classwork & Homework [Support communication] ● Extra Credit or Acceleration [Advance & extend] ● interconnect to HISD Hub & Useful Links 2- Make Drive folder> “Website.” Click on “New” and then, choose “Folder.” Name it WEBSITE. Share the folder so that “anyone with the link” can see it. Right-click on folder & choose ‘share.’ Click on the “Advanced” link in the bottom right.Click on “change” next to “private.” Choose ‘Anyone with the link.’ Add files to folder that will now be viewable when posted to website.   2. 2. 3- Access Google Sites Go to sites.google.com/new . Click red plus sign to start new site. OR... Go to your Google Drive > NEW > MORE > Google Sites 4- Name your site document Click on top left on new site.   3. 3. 6- Change Header Type Change header by hovering over bottom left > ‘Header Type’ > Large Banner, Banner or Title Only. 7- Change Header Image Change header image by hovering over bottom left > ‘Change Image’ Browse & upload or select image. 8- Insert Text box Add Site introduction text. Choose from Title, Heading, Subheading and Normal Text as needed. Double click on page to select from wheel! Example: This site is a home-base for Ms. Eastman's STEM Class. As an access point for Mandarin Immersion Magnet School students, find links and instructions related to STEM learning content, classroom events and assignments. Stay tuned!   4. 4. 9- Change Section Style Change color emphasis or add image(s) as needed. 10- Customize Theme Choose theme, color scheme and font style. These are tied together to streamline theme cohesion. 11- Insert Pages +Pages : [Refer to Step 1: Plan] Add Syllabus from Google Drive! Add more pages & site topics.   5. 5. 12- Set up site navigation Move navigation menu to the left or right sides. Hover over the site name and click Navigation Settings settings. Choose where to place your navigation. . 13- Google Drive Content Embed any file or the contents of a folder stored in Drive. If you make changes to your files in Drive, same changes automatically show in Sites. Add anything from Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, or Charts.   6. 6. 14- Google Embedded Content Add YouTube videos (flipped learning), calendars (class or event calendars), and maps (create & embed custom maps). 15-Insert Content Select page to add content. Click Insert. Or, double-click on page.   7. 7. 16- Share & Collaborate To share a site from Sites, click Add editors icon. Add. To share a site from Drive, in Drive, select the site file and click Share person. Add. 17- Preview Click PREVIEW To see how your site looks on different devices, choose an option: Phone, Tablet or Large screen Use back arrow to exit preview screen. 18-Publish Click PUBLISH. Add a name to the end of the URL. Change a site’s URL: Click down arrow next to Publish > PUBLISH SETTINGS > Enter new URL Share, Preview & Publish! E. H. Eastman October 2017 MIMSHISD.org
