MAJOR ARTISTIC EVENTS OF THE PERIOD 1968 - 1989
La Bertesca Gallery (1968) – Germano Celant launches
the Poor Art Exhibition in Genoa, he oversees the
theory of the namesake movement
Photorealism (1969) – a movement born in the USA at the
end of the 60s. the artists try to retrieve, select an exalt the
picture of the world invaded by media.
2. New Expressionism (1970) - focused mostly on painting.
It is characterized by the representation of a figure
deformed by apprehension.
Sydney Opera House (1973) – Elizabeth II launches the
new Opera theatre in Sydney designated to become the
symbol of Australia
Salvatore Fiume (1977) – a painter who painted the Saint
Rocco’s Chapel in Cosenza. He drew 13 walls inside
and outside the castle; they tell three stories: two of
them about the medieval life and one about a
beautiful female slave imprisoned by Turkish
The Demoscene (1985) - Term derived by the English
words demo and scene. It is an artistic and informatics
phenomenon. The public at large consider it as a new
form of art.
Capodimonte Exhibitions (1985-1986) - Vesuvius by Andy
Warhol in 1985, e the one by Joseph Beuys Royal
Palace in 1986, both organized by Lucio Amelio.
3. Biennal Exhbition (1986) - Art and Science, divided in
two sectors: the first - between the Past and the
Present, space, alchemy and art, and Wunderkammer;
the second – Science. It was a very complex
exhibition. It included an outdoor exhibition of
sculptures as well.
"Florence for Europe" (1986) – a series of exhibitions
about the born of Donatello.
Sandro Pertini’s Monument (1988) - by Aldo Rossi,
architect from Milan. It is a monumental fountain
dedicated to the beloved Italian President. It is closed on
three sides with stone walls, there’s a triangular channel
on the bottom through which the water runs towards a
length.
