Quality Objectives ISO 9001:2008 Clause: 5.4.1
ISO 9001:2008 “Top Management Shall ensure that quality objectives, including those needed to meet requirements for product are established at relevant functions and levels within the organization. The quality objective shall be measureable and consistent with the quality policy.” Clause: 5.4.1
Quality Objective: Strategy for Continual Improvement ISO 9001:2008 Clause: 5.4.1
Requirements of quality objective SMART S : Specific M : Measureable A : Achievable R : Realistic T : Time Source: salesmarketinghelpcentral.blogspot.com/
Steps to establish quality objective
Step 1: Establish the Foundation For Quality Objective ISO 9001: 2008 Clause: 5.4.1
Points to Remember Base quality objective on quality policy and business objectives Remember “Product” in broader terms i.e. “Product is the result of processes” Emphasize on meaningful parameters that could improve the existing product/service Step 1: Establish the Foundation For Quality Objective
Examples Some parameters derived from Quality and food safety Policy: Customer complaints/Customer Satisfaction Number of corrective actions Corrective action completion time Unscheduled machine down time Machine set-up time Step 1: Establish the Foundation For Quality Objective Quality and Food Safety policy Business Objectives
Examples Delivery performance Inventory accuracy Reworks Cost of Product Control of Hazards Quality and Food Safety policy Business Objectives
Step 2:	Select Key Measures Quality objective Clause: 5.4.1
What are Key measures? Key Measures: are the important and relevant parameters expressed as a number or measure or quantity Existing, maintained record can be used for collection of data for key measures New record can be generated if required Data must be graphically or statistically presentable Step 2: Select Key Measures
Key MeasuresExamples Step 2: Select Key Measures
Collection Of New Record Step 2: Select Key Measures
Step3:	Base Quality Objective statement on Key measures ISO 9001:2008 Clause: 5.4.1
Quality Objective statementTips Use concise statements Avoid using subjective words in quality objective statement Statement must reflect “Continual improvement” Prefer benchmarking through measureable parameters Step3: Base Quality Objective statement on Key measures
Quality Objective statement Examples “Reduce cost of non-conforming materials (scrap and rework) by 15%” “Have a least 2 people trained or qualified for every task” ISO 9001: 2008 Clause: 5.4.1
Step 4: Designing Strategy ISO 9001:2008 Clause: 5.4.1
Designing Strategy Select appropriate time frame for completion of quality objective Divide your objective in to small achievable targets Identify related departments or persons Timely and effectively communicate with involved departments and persons Ensure Implementation through proper review and monitoring of performance Step:3: Base Quality Objective statement on Key measures
Step5: Compile and Analyze Data ISO 9001:2008 Clause 5.4.1
Points to remember Summarize the data in relevance to Quality objective Clearly state the improvement part Present Data graphically Present recommendation for further improvement (if possible) Step 5: Compile and Analyze Data
THE END Thank You for your Time
