EAST ROCKAWAY INLET TO ROCKAWAY INLET REFORMULATION STUDY 8 Features • Reinforced dune and beachfill with structure crest of +17 ft NAVD88 for 35,000 LF from Beach 9th Street to Beach 149th Street, and include sand tapers at the ends of the project. • Shorefront 0.067% flood (optimized) • 5 groin extensions, 1 optional groin rehabilitation • 13 new groins • System of connecting floodwalls, bulkheads, berms, and revetments with nature-based features to cost effectively reduce risk in frequently flooded areas. These are called high frequency flooding risk reduction features and are sited in the Jamaica Bay reach. Designed for 10% flood. • Project First Cost (Oct 2019 price level) $590,750,000 • BCR 2.3 • Chief’s Report signed 22 Aug 2019
  9. 9. RECOMMENDED PLAN – ATLANTIC SHOREFRONT 9 Buried Composite Seawall / Vegetated Dune Beach Profile Initial beachfill: 1,596,000 cubic yards Renourishment (4 year cycle): 1,111,000 cubic yards Groins reduce lifecyle cost (less renourishment)

RECOMMENDED PLAN –HIGH FREQUENCY FLOODING RISK REDUCTION FEATURES 10 Jamaica Bay Reach • Two high frequency flooding risk reduction features are included in the Recommended Plan. • Mid-Rockaway is the largest and includes three adjacent neighborhoods (shown above). • Cedarhurst-Lawrence HFFRRF (pictured bottom right) is in Nassau County. • HFFRRFs are designed to manage flood risk up to the current 10% AEP (10-year) flood • Mid-Rockaway HFFRRF includes five areas with natural and nature-based features (NNBFs) Cedarhurst-Lawrence Mid-Rockaway
