2. 2.

This site was created by teens, for teens. It is here to be a support system for teens with problems which they continually face on a day to day basis. Our biggest concern is to keep teenagers from making the wrong decisions which cause them to end up throwing their lives away. We want you to live a successful life and we want to be the site that allows you to communicate with other teens who are having similar issues. It doesn’t seem right that websites with the purpose of helping teens are created by adults. Who would better understand what a teenager is going through than teens themselves? We hope that there is something here that will assist you with anything you may be having trouble with. Whatever you may need help with, we want to be there for you.

 3. 3.

Emily: I chose my topic mainly because I feel empathetic towards kids who have a hard life growing up because of their parents, and sometimes it isn't their fault. This is a problem in society because the parents teach their kids, and this cycle is on going. “If the child is not guided properly through his growing up days, he may be led astray by bad company to commit crimes of low degree like gangsterism to those which may result in the death sentence…” (Raffles).

Stephanie: Also the reasoning behind why I chose teen drug abuse for my fall term paper was because I know a lot of teens that are involve with drugs and just wanted to write a paper to maybe make an awareness and learn more myself about this devastating problem. I also chose this because I have brothers that are involve with drugs and wanted to do more research and stuff on drugs and I thought that this assignment was the perfect to do so.

Christian: I wrote about the decline in the traditional family and the effect it has on the youth of our generation. Basically, I stressed how important it is for teenagers to value an education because it will open so many doors for them. It hurts me to see people failing their classes simply because they do not care. To me it seems like they are wasting their time. Why would teachers try so hard to have an impact on a students live just so that they can throw their lives away and become a ditch digger. I understand that it is not easy to make a career for yourself and their are not going to be a flood of opportunities that open up to you the second you become an adult and look for a job. I wanted to spread awareness of this fact. In my paper I said that the child cannot be to blame but the parents can. They may be great parents, and their children may love them, but they did not teach them the fundamental fact that if you dont choose a successful lifestyle from the beginning, it will be very hard to turn things around later. And if they don't choose to spend their time wisely, there can be terrible results, like drug abuse (which our website talks about). This is why I think your students will benefit from my presentation. Thanks again for giving us this opportunity.

Brandon: I choose to do my Fall term paper on teens and law because it is something that has had an impact on my life since my early teen years. From me making mistakes or even police officials mistreating me just because I'm a teenager and they can get away with it. Law enforcement is in every single persons life but for some reason teens it seems to me like they're constantly present.

Each of our Fall Term Papers had the common subject of teen issues. All four of us wanted to help teens in some way, whether it be with family situations or drugs. We liked the idea of a teen support system where everyone can feel comfortable sharing their situations, in hopes of finding someone else going through the same thing.

 4. 4.

Each of our meeting took place at Starbucks © where we recapped and updated each member on the website and things that needed to be done. We wrote our proposal, action plan, progress report, and evaluation there as well as keeping up on everybody’s tasks for the website.

 5. 5.

For our school component, we presented in two of Ms. Moquete’s classes. Each of us told a little about our Fall Term Paper topics. Then we said what the Spring Project was and why we chose to make a website. Next, we showed the students different tabs on the website and had them read one of the two struggle stories. Lastly, we had them write a comment, response, or issue they were having in the “Teen Help” section. We also gave each student a bookmark with the websites name so they could go on it another time.

Pic of us presenting and of Ms. Moquete’s class

 6. 6.

We passed flyers and bookmarks around town to local businesses. We also made a Facebook group for the website and we invited all of our friends to it. Just making the website is part of our community and the world as a whole.

 7. 7.

R igor: The videos with teens talking about their experiences in life. Although they are not adults, they could be considered experts because they have experience in the situations they are speaking about.

A ction: Even though an adult may be more educated, by teens talking with teens, they can relate and understand each other’s issues on a much deeper level. Teens are showing adults that we can work together to solve our problems.

D econstruction: There are four book summaries of books about teen’s struggles and how they succeeded in life. These books go against the common belief of people thinking once they are poor and struggling it will never get better, because these teens came out on top.

I nterdisciplinary Education: This website is “outside the box” because it is about teens helping teens. Usually adults help teens, but in this situation, teens started everything, and ultimately created a whole web of teen support for each other.

O ther Voices: Youth as a whole is left out of the mainstream, so normally an adult would start a website to help teens through their struggles. In this situation, teens created the website, so they can relate to each other’s stories. The whole website is made by teens for teens, so it is all about the youth and they are not a part of the mainstream like adults are.

 8. 8.

Having people acknowledge the fact that we put so much effort to help other teens with issues that we feel strongly about. We are proud that we made something that can help any teen get through something, without the help of adults.

We procrastinated on the little things because we thought they wouldn’t be that hard, but then everything piled up and we made everything harder on ourselves.

 9. 9.

Overcame: Looking for support from other sources which were relevant to our topic. For example, it was hard to find videos of teens talking with teens and not with adults, but we eventually found thirteen videos of teens talking about their lives.

Didn’t Overcome: Communication issues within the group because there weren’t adults involved and we had to make sure that each member was on task. Conflicting classes and activities made it hard to find time to make the website and meet with our group. Keeping the group organized and updated. Making sure everybody was doing what they were supposed to be doing. Although these issues did not get completely resolved, we got the website and project done and learned a little about working in groups.

 10. 10.

We learned through the process that we should have listened to Todd and Kautsch from the beginning. They said that the due date would sneak up on us and told us not to procrastinate. Although we listened to them, we didn’t fully learn these lessons until we experienced them ourselves. We will carry these lessons with us because of this project now.

 11. 11.

Walking around after we presented, we overheard some conversations about the website. They were talking about the website as a whole and how they were shocked and wowed at the struggle stories and drug facts. Raising awareness about the issues teens face will cause then to appreciate their privileges; we hope the can live more productive lives. We think this website would help people who are struggling get through their situation, and help people who aren’t struggling recognize their advantages in life.
