MY ALL IN ALL
Barry Kennedy
“You are my strength when I am weak, You are the treasure that I seek, You
are my all in all.” These words come from the song “You Are My All In All” written
by Dennis Jernigan. Mr. Jernigan is a denominational music minister who has written
many religious/devotional songs. He often speaks to various denominations about his
freedom from homosexuality. Many of his songs indicate how God was the source of
his freedom. Many in the world see homosexuality as an “alternative lifestyle.” They
tend to view this lifestyle as a genetic characteristic, instead of a conscious decision.
One must make a choice as to whether he or she is going to be involved in any
physical relationship, be it homosexual or heterosexual. One must realize that the
subject matter is sin, nothing more, nothing less. If one transgresses God’s law,
expressly stated or implied, he sins (1 John 3:4).
We all have many weaknesses in this life. What may be a very hard
temptation for me may not bother you in the least. Satan is aware of this truth, and
thus he tempts us based upon our own lusts (James 1:13-15). It is our own lusts that
make us weak, but like the song says, “You (God) are my strength when I am weak.”
God offers the strength needed to overcome our trials and temptations. “Do not err,
my beloved brethren. Every good and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh
down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of
turning” (James 1:16, 17). If we are thinking we will be able to overcome sin and
temptation alone, we are setting ourselves up for a great fall (Proverbs 16:18).
The apostle Paul is one of the most impressive characters of all the Bible. He
traded in his position as an oppressor to be oppressed. Paul went from being the coat
bearer of the stoners to the recipient of the stones (Acts 7:58, 59; 14:19). What would
cause someone to deny himself to this degree? It could not be selfishness.
“Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra;
what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yea, and all
that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:11, 12). We
must realize, as did Paul, that God is our all in all. When we are tempted, He knows
how to deliver us. “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations,
and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished” (2 Peter 2:9). From
this verse some may develop the attitude or idea that God is going to do it all for me.
That is not at all the message Peter was relaying. Two key words should stand out in
the above passage, godly and ungodly. Godliness and ungodliness are characteristics
that we choose. “But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness” (1 Timothy 6:11). The

opposite is also implied. If Timothy could flee and
follow, he could just as easily accept the sinful life
listed in 1 Timothy 6:3-5, 9-10, and reject following
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and
meekness. The choice is ours, is He really our all in
all?
We must find the balance in our lives as
Christians. This balance involves having a proper
understanding of who God is and who we are, what
God can do and what we can do, where God can go,
and, of course, where we can go. Friends, God
wants us to be saved and to come into the
knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). That
knowledge begins with understanding that God is to
be now and forever, our all in all. Jesus said, “I am
Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending. . .”
(Revelation 1:8).
Is He our all in all today? Are we allowing
Him to be the source of all our needs? That all
depends upon whether we are allowing His Bible to
be that lamp unto our feet and light unto our path
(Psalm 119:105). Can we honestly sing, “You are
my strength when I am weak, you are the treasure
that I seek, you are my all in all?” Let’s all resolve
to make Him our all in all!

East main informer, 7 13-21

  • 1. 4 Vol. 46 July 13, 2021 Number 26 MY ALL IN ALL Barry Kennedy “You are my strength when I am weak, You are the treasure that I seek, You are my all in all.” These words come from the song “You Are My All In All” written by Dennis Jernigan. Mr. Jernigan is a denominational music minister who has written many religious/devotional songs. He often speaks to various denominations about his freedom from homosexuality. Many of his songs indicate how God was the source of his freedom. Many in the world see homosexuality as an “alternative lifestyle.” They tend to view this lifestyle as a genetic characteristic, instead of a conscious decision. One must make a choice as to whether he or she is going to be involved in any physical relationship, be it homosexual or heterosexual. One must realize that the subject matter is sin, nothing more, nothing less. If one transgresses God’s law, expressly stated or implied, he sins (1 John 3:4). We all have many weaknesses in this life. What may be a very hard temptation for me may not bother you in the least. Satan is aware of this truth, and thus he tempts us based upon our own lusts (James 1:13-15). It is our own lusts that make us weak, but like the song says, “You (God) are my strength when I am weak.” God offers the strength needed to overcome our trials and temptations. “Do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning” (James 1:16, 17). If we are thinking we will be able to overcome sin and temptation alone, we are setting ourselves up for a great fall (Proverbs 16:18). The apostle Paul is one of the most impressive characters of all the Bible. He traded in his position as an oppressor to be oppressed. Paul went from being the coat bearer of the stoners to the recipient of the stones (Acts 7:58, 59; 14:19). What would cause someone to deny himself to this degree? It could not be selfishness. “Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3:11, 12). We must realize, as did Paul, that God is our all in all. When we are tempted, He knows how to deliver us. “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished” (2 Peter 2:9). From this verse some may develop the attitude or idea that God is going to do it all for me. That is not at all the message Peter was relaying. Two key words should stand out in the above passage, godly and ungodly. Godliness and ungodliness are characteristics that we choose. “But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness” (1 Timothy 6:11). • 2. --article continued from page 1-- opposite is also implied. If Timothy could flee and follow, he could just as easily accept the sinful life listed in 1 Timothy 6:3-5, 9-10, and reject following righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and meekness. The choice is ours, is He really our all in all? We must find the balance in our lives as Christians. This balance involves having a proper understanding of who God is and who we are, what God can do and what we can do, where God can go, and, of course, where we can go. Friends, God wants us to be saved and to come into the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). That knowledge begins with understanding that God is to be now and forever, our all in all. Jesus said, “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending. . .” (Revelation 1:8). Is He our all in all today? Are we allowing Him to be the source of all our needs? That all depends upon whether we are allowing His Bible to be that lamp unto our feet and light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). Can we honestly sing, “You are my strength when I am weak, you are the treasure that I seek, you are my all in all?” Let’s all resolve to make Him our all in all! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Community Outreach Program The Community Outreach Program needs your help with “Packing Backpacks” for area schools this upcoming year.
