Le Gleo mentions it and we as readers know that he is superstitious (as well as a little crazy!). The Rats a. Land Rats โ not even a foot long, run away at the sound of anything, scared, wretched creatures b. Sea Rats โ smart, vicious, run in hordes (clannish), fierce, bold, large, sea-wise, foretell weatherโฆโฆas our narrator explains, DUTCH sea rats are the worst!
5. Irony a. Definition โ in general, a contrast between what is expected to happen and what actually happens. b. Example โ they expect the sharks to be enemies and eat the humans, but actually they end up eating the rats and helping the humans. Personification a. Definition โ giving human qualities and character- istics to nonhuman things b. Example โ the rats communicating through shrill cries, ridiculing and getting mad at each other for not reaching the boat, working together to attack the humans.
