Proverbs 29:8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare:
but wise men turn away wrath.
Mockers laugh at moral restrictions and stir up (lit.,
“fan or blow on” embers) trouble. Mockers keep
things in an uproar. These troublemakers get others
angry and incite rebellion.
The Bible Knowledge Commentary: An Exposition of the Scriptures by Dallas Seminary Faculty.
Don’t laugh at sound morality; it’s given to us
by our Lord to save us from trouble.
Every Word of God is for our benefit.
4. 4
9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man,
whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.
(TLB) 9 There’s no use arguing with a fool. He only
rages and scoffs, and tempers flare.
Trying to persuade a foolish man of Truth is a
waste of time; he will just make you mad.DVT
He will not listen, and he will
argue with foolish ideas.
5. 5
10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just
seek his soul.
The upright are always a threat to evil men.
The upright won’t compromise.
The upright will testify to the
Truth of any matter.
Always remember: the devil is the liar,
the hater, the murderer, and the accuser.
6. 6
John 15 18 (Jesus said) If the world hate you, ye
know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If ye
were of the world, the world would love his own:
but because ye are not of the world, but I have
chosen you out of the world, therefore the world
hateth you.
20 Remember the Word that I said unto you, The
servant is not greater than his lord. If they have
persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they
have kept My saying, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things will they do unto you for My
Name's sake, because they know not Him that sent
Me.
7. 7
11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man
keepeth it in till afterwards.
We don’t have to say
everything we think.
Most thoughts are better left unspoken.
8. 8
12 If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are
wicked.
Anyone who listens to lies will have
liars all around him.
If you enjoy flattery, flatterers will come.
A good leader will surround himself with
people who are wise and speak Truth.
Not with “yes men” who always agree with
him and say what he wants to hear.
9. 9
13 The poor and the deceitful man meet together:
the LORD lighteneth both their eyes.
The only thing they have in common is that if
they see anything as it is,
God enabled them to see.
10. 10
14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his
throne shall be established for ever.
(TLB) 14 A king who is fair to the poor shall have a
long reign.
“Fair to the poor” doesn’t mean to make them
dependent upon the government.
“Fair to the poor” means the same justice for
the poor and rich;
The same opportunities exist for the poor.
11. 11
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left
to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
A child who is not corrected when he is young,
will be stubbornly wicked when he is older.
Proverbs 22 6 Train up a child in the way he should
go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22 15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of
a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far
from him.
