The document discusses how to avoid worry, stress, and anxiety by seeking God first through prayer, reading scripture, pursuing righteousness, and trusting that God will provide for all needs. It explains that Jesus told his followers not to worry about basic necessities like food and clothing but to make God and his kingdom their top priority. When facing difficulties, believers are instructed to pray, read the Bible, do God's will, and have faith in his provision rather than prioritizing their problems.
How to Avoid Worry, Stress, and Anxiety by Seeking God First
1.
2. Everyday things can easily cause us to worry
◦ What will I wear?
◦ What will I eat?
◦ How will I pay my bills?
3. Many cope with stress by turning to:
◦ Drinking
◦ Smoking
◦ Drugs
◦ etc.
4. Worry, stress, & anxiety often arise when we
focus attention on issues outside our control
& make them our minds‟ primary concerns
5. However, Jesus told us NOT to be worried or
anxious about our lives/needs
◦ (See Matthew 6:25-34)
“So do not worry, saying, „What shall we eat?‟ or
„What shall we drink?‟ or „What shall we wear?‟”
(Matthew 6:31)
6. Don‟t worry! (no pun intended)
it‟s a perfectly normal response to ask…
7. Don‟t worry! (no pun intended)
it‟s a perfectly normal response to ask…
REALLY JESUS!?!
HOW AM I GOING TO DO THAT!?!
8. Look again at Matthew 6:25-34
Jesus tells us how in v. 33
◦ 31 “So do not worry, saying, „What shall we eat?‟ or
„What shall we drink?‟ or „What shall we wear?‟ 32
For the pagans run after all these things, and your
heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But
seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and
all these things will be given to you as well. 34
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for
tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has
enough trouble of its own.”
(Matthew 6:31-34)
9. We see from v. 33 that
◦ instead of putting stressful issues FIRST
(which cause us to worry & leads us into other sins)
◦ we should seek God‟s Kingdom & righteousness FIRST
(leading Him to provide all our needs)
10. What does it mean to “seek God‟s Kingdom &

11. What does it mean to “seek God‟s Kingdom &

13. During times of worry, how do we “seek first
God‟s Kingdom”?
Answer:
Trade seeking Man‟s answers for God‟s. Seek
His guidance through prayer & scripture first.
Then trust Him! Have faith He‟ll do what‟s
best.
* Prayer can get you what you need (Matt. 7:7-11; James 4:2; etc.),
faith is needed for effective prayer (James 1:6-7, etc.), and
scripture is used to build faith (Romans 10:17)!
14. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in
everything, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all
understanding, will guard your hearts and
your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
15. During times of worry, how do we “seek first
God‟s righteousness”?
Answer: ?
16. During times of worry, how do we “seek first
God‟s righteousness”?
Answer:
Make doing God‟s will a priority (obeying His
Word, ministry, Bible reading, etc.)
* Recall, God hears the prayers of the righteous, but His face is
against those who do evil (1 Peter 3:12)
* Remember, scripture reading helps us live righteously (Psalm
119:11; Luke 6:45)
17. NOTE: Matthew 6:33 says “seek FIRST” and
not “seek ONLY”
…So if you need a job to pay bills don‟t be so
holy that you never send out an application!
18. Finally, if things do not turn out the way you
wanted, PRAISE GOD!
Trust He does what‟s best even when it hurts.
◦ 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not
on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways
acknowledge him, and he will make your paths
straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
19. And we know that in all things God works for
the good of those who love him, who have
been called according to his purpose.
Romans 8:28
* …even seemingly bad things
