2. Hurricane information Hurricane Katrina was the most expensive hurricane, as well as one of the five deadliest, in the history of the United States. Hurricane Katrina formed over the Bahamas on Agust 23, 2005 and crossed southern Florida as a moderate category 1 hurricane, causing some deaths and flooding there before trengthening rapidly in the Gulf of Mexico. The most severe loss of life and property damage ocurred in New Orleans, Lousiana, which flooded as the levee system catastrophically faliled, in mnay cases hours after the storm had moved inland. Eventually 80% of the city became flooded and also large tracts of neighboring parishes, and the floodwaters lingered for weeks.
3. Affected zones The hurricane affected Cuba, Florida and Louisiana. The most affected zone was New Orleans, a Lousiana city. In total, the hurricane killed 1,836 people, and 705 were missed. The total damage was $ 90.9 billion.
