5. PEER COUNSELING IS NOT ADVISING!!!!
In peer counseling, the counseling of
the person will depend upon how you
have treated the “blocks” because
blocks can cause irrational behavior.
Counseling process enables the person
to sort out unpleasant experiences and
erase “blocks”.
6. COUNSELING = LISTENING
When a client talks, client listens to
herself/himself.
When listening to oneself, one gets insight
within one’s self.
Equivalent to intuiting- talking to
yourself.
7. Peer Counselors
listens with delight
responds but lets the counselee
decide
do not interrupt or make “sabat”
but instead let the client talk
continuously because the
counselee is actually taking to
herself, not to the counselor.

15. WHAT IS PEER COUNSELING PROGRAM?
THE PEER COUNSELING PROGRAM is:
dedicated to assisting students throughout their important
years of college by establishing one-on-one peer-mentoring
relationships between students.
built on the belief that the regular availability of a trained
upper-class student to listen and offer counseling and
guidance will greatly assist any student in meeting the
demands of college life.
Realizing that a student’s college experience involves much
more than the classroom and that academic achievement
can be influenced for both good and bad by how a student
balances the myriad components of college life, peer
counselors are prepared to provide counseling and assistance
on a variety of issues that might affect a first-year student.
16. WHO ARE THE PEER COUNSELORS?
PEER COUNSELORS are:
upper-class students who volunteer because of
their desire to assist their peers/co-students.
selected based on strong interpersonal skills,
solid academic performance, and thorough
knowledge of how to function as a college
student.
leaders in other campus organizations. After
being selected, Peer Counselors participate in
a comprehensive training program.

Any and all aspects of college life relating to academic
success.

Cultural adaptation for international students or those
from across the country.
18. BENEFITS TO A PEER COUNSELOR:
The Peer Career Counselor will gain experience in:
communication, counseling, and instruction while
enhancing leadership and presentation skills.
Peer Career Counselors not only gain the ability to
assist others with career issues, but also gain
knowledge about the job market and career related
topics that will aid in their own career decision-making
and job search.
Valuable experience will be gained by working in a
professional environment and having a professional
staff mentor.
