1. Are Floaters In Eye Caused By Stress?
Stress is a daily occurrence and it can have various effects on the body and the mind. It is well
documented that stress can shorten someone’s lifespan, lead to burnout and reduce the
enjoyment someone takes in their day to day life. However, stress is not the be-all and end-all
cause of medical conditions. And this is certainly true in the case of floaters in eye.
What are eye floaters? Eye floaters are
certain shapes that you can see if you look
at white, luminous surfaces or spaces. They
could be strings, lines, dots or various
other shapes that float around in your field
of vision. They are caused by a protein
named collagen, when it accumulates in
the back of the eye into formations that
begin to float in the liquid known as the
vitreous humor.
In most cases they are harmless and they’re
main cause is age, but it could be myopia.
But there are cases in which you should seek medical attention. In these cases, serious eye
damage could be the cause behind the floaters. If eye floaters are experienced alongside eye
pain, flashing lights , loss of vision or if they come suddenly after you’ve had some eye trauma
or surgery, they could be symptoms of a retinal tear, a retinal detachment, a lymphoma, or
bleeding inside the eye, so make sure that you get in contact with a healthcare professional
immediately. In these cases, urgent medical attention is required, or else these conditions could
lead to permanent eye damage.
Benign eye floaters are a common occurrence and they can be a nuisance sometime. But, while
the condition can get better on its own, it will never fully disappear. If you are experiencing
floaters in eye and you want to get rid of them, a quick and simple solution is to move your eyes
around until they float out of your field of vision. Surgery is also an option, but it is reserved for
extreme cases only, due to the high risk of complications associated with it.
Migraines And High Blood Pressure
However, certain conditions like migraines can lead to floaters or flashes in the eye. Flashes and
floaters can also result from high blood pressure. Now high blood pressure, can, amongst others,
be caused by stress.
So no, while stress is not the direct cause of eye floaters, stress can influence their formation.
But you’re probably a little too stressed out if you are looking this up. Don’t worry though,
everybody’s stressed these days. In any case, eye floaters are no reason to be stressed out even
more. In fact, floaters in eye can be a source of peace, as you watch them float carelessly across
your vision.
