New tech companies have finally realized that there is limited capital to go around for all these ventures. But if they partner with their customers -- the brands -- from the outset, it’s much easier to adapt to their prospective clients’ needs. Now some agencies are playing matchmaker to the startups and brands in order to keep the newcomers afloat. Is this trend here to stay?

Our team has the unique experience of both building technology companies and running social media campaigns for brands.\nI’ve built and scaled a successful enterprise software startup.\nMy co-founder Mike is also an experienced entrepreneur and has also spent a lot of time as tech director at several NYC agencies.\n
We’ve worked with some of the largest brands and agencies around so we understand a little bit about brand’s needs around social media.\n
Everyone knows that photos and photo-sharing are huge. \nOver 380 billion photos are taken every year.\nMobile phones and photo sharing apps such as Instagram and even Facebook are rapidly fueling this growth.\n
Some of these photos are boring and frankly unattractive.\n
And some are slightly more attractive.\n
But mostly, they are every day mundane things perhaps slapped with an Instagram filter to make it seem like you’re more creative than you actually are. \nThis, by the way is Justin Bieber’s first Instagram photo, which has 19,000 likes.\nSo as you can see, regardless of the quality, photos are extremely engaging.\nThe reason for that is because they’re portals into our friends’ lives... they’re they way we tell stories in today’s world of iPhones and 140 character limits.\nHowever, for the most part, your photos are of life as it happens to you.\nWell, we wanted something more. We wanted a challenge. Something that would encourage us to go out and experience fun things in the real world.\n
So we created Pictorious - a mobile app for photo challenges and contests.\n
On Pictorious, anyone can create a fun photo challenge.\n\nFor example, I created the planking challenge...\n
...with this is photo of my baby girl, which I’m proud to say no one has been able to beat. Feel free to try.\n\nAs you complete challenges...\n
...you develop a persona based on the types challenges you complete. For example, I’ve done mostly funny and cool challenges so I’m a Level 13 ”Cool Comedian”. \n\nBy the way, people love this and take a lot of pride in being “Artsy Activists” and “Hungry Hipsters”.\n\nAnd as you continue to complete and win challenges...\n\n
...you level up, you move up in the leaderboards and you get achievements.\n\nIn addition, you can even win prizes.\n
A strategic partnership with Kiip allows us to provide real world rewards for achievements within Pictorious.\n\nNow, if you’re a brand, a photo challenge or contest is a great way to influence consumer behavior for example “go bake this recipe” or “test out our new running shoe”. And you actually probably already do this on Facebook or a microsite or even informally on Twitter.\n\nThe beauty of Pictorious is that we’re a mobile platform. That makes it easy for people to participate (since everyone has a smartphone) and enables cool features such as location based challenges.\n
So an example of a branded challenge for the Olympics could be “Olympic Spirit” where you challenge people to show off their Olympic fever. If you couple that with official team USA jackets for the top 10 submissions, you’ll get some pretty awesome photos.\n\nOr, for the upcoming winter olympics, if you want to go the more internet savvy route, you could start the next meme. Instead of Planking, you can call it simply...\n
...“Curling”. The challenge could be to put on a crazy pair of pants and do the curling pose. It’s way cooler than Tebowing. Something like this would be a great way to raise awareness about a specific event and get people excited about the upcoming winter olympics.\n\nWith the game mechanics and prize incentives, photos on Pictorious tend to be creative, funny and just plain awesome. They’re photos that people are proud to share with their friends...\n
...and we make it easy for people to share on their social networks, which only amplifies your brand’s awareness.\n\nFor branded challenges...\n
...we offer admin tools and analytics packages to moderate photos and comments and track relevant metrics such as likes, shares and views.\n\nIn addition to the traditional metrics and demographic information...\n
...we also have a sense of who our users are by the types of challenges they participate in, create and view creating somewhat of an interest graph based on the things they take photos of, which happens to be very representative of what they do in real life.\nGiven that it’s a mobile platform, we also know where they like to go.\nAnd of course we know who they influence.\n

To summarize, Pictorious makes the highly engaging activity of photo sharing easy for brands.\nYou can work with us to brand challenges on Pictorious or integrate our technology into your existing apps and websites or even build a fully customized white label app. All within a tightly controlled moderated environment that’s fully managed and hosted.\n
