Candy throws Gwendolyn an official "welcome to the family" party, but Spencer decides he'd rather not attend. This leads to a showdown and Spencer gets a chance to unload a lot of pent up ill feelings. Will the Pratt family be able to recover from the pain and hurt that they've caused each other?
3. This time she is up early, because she’s having a hard time sleeping due to anxiety over the party that Candy is throwing for her.
4. Turns out, Gwendolyn was not the only one having problems sleeping last night. Candy stayed up late watching the romance channel on television.
5. She spent the evening reflecting on her failed marriage to Sam asking herself what she could have done differently to keep the relationship together.
7. Spencer wakes up and heads downstairs for breakfast, only to run into Gwendolyn. He avoids her as well as he can and grabs leftovers out of the fridge for breakfast.
8. Gwendolyn looks to avoid Spencer as well, so she heads out to enjoy the new trampoline that Candy has recently purchased.
9. Spencer leaves the house right after breakfast and heads to Crystal Springs, which happens to be owned by the Pratts.
10. After noticing that Spencer is not home, Candy calls him to remind him that he needs to be back in time for Gwendolyn’s party. He grumbles a response and hangs up the phone.
11. At Crystal Springs, Spencer gets to see the upgrades that his mother has had put into place soon after they purchased the land.
12. Spencer has the “bright” idea to ignore his mother’s request to be on time for Gwendolyn’s party. In fact, he plans to spend the day at the park and miss the party all together.
22. Ouch! She finds out the hard way that there is indeed a snake in the basket. She leaves snake charming alone for a while and decides to prepare for the party.
28. Candy gives her cousin Kianah a big hug and introduces her to her newly adopted daughter.
29. Just as she finishes the introductions, she spots Cassandra English, her ex-husband’s new girlfriend speaking to Tenor.
30. “How dare you show up at my house!” Candy yells along with several insults.
31. Cassandra is not very happy about being insulted in front of everyone.
32. “Sam still owns a part of this house! I can be here if I want!” Cassandra retorts.“No you stupid Llama! He signed his share of the house over to me! What, he didn’t tell you that he’s a broke deadbeat?” Candy screams back.
33. Cassandra would like to grab Candy around her neck and Candy would love to slap Cassandra, but they both decide against it.
34. Candy tells Cassandra to leave and wishes her a wonderful, sunny day with plenty of sarcasm. Cassandra is furious, but she does leave.
38. Between entertaining guests, Candy notices that Spencer has not made it back home yet even though she specifically told him to be there on time. She decides to call him.
39. Spencer gives her some lame excuse on why he isn’t home, but Candy is not impressed. “You’d better get home now!” She hisses into the phone.
40. As soon as Spencer arrives home, Candy is on his case.
41. Spencer plays it off as if he is truly sorry for being late for the party. But when Candy tells him that he is being selfish and unkind to his little sister Gwendolyn…
42. …he gets angry and tells Candy that she should have never adopted another child, because she’s never been a good mother to the one she already has. Spencer accuses Candy of loving work more than him.
43. Candy is hurt, but is reminded of a similar conversation that she had with her ex-husband, Spencer’s father, years ago…
44. …Candy recalls Sam also accusing her of caring more about work, than she did for her family.
45. Spencer goes on to mock her whole purpose for throwing a party. “You don’t care about Gwendolyn anymore than I do. You just want to show how great you are for adopting an unwanted child!”
46. ‘I didn’t want to be at this mockery of a party. I did not want to pretend to be a happy family!” Spencer yells.
47. How dare you, is all that Candy can say. She is absolutely speechless that her son is speaking to her in this way.
50. The only time Candy can recall being so appalled and angry was when she found out about her husband Sam cheating and getting another woman pregnant.
52. Gwendolyn, who heard the arguing, but does not know what was said, decides to head outside to get away from the tense mood in the house.
53. While Mimi does her best to keep the guest entertained and unaware of the drama.
54. Kianah’s guitar playing is just loud enough to keep the guests distracted.
55. Candy feels ten years older, weighed down and aged by the hurtful words that her son has said to her.
56. Candy has only one thing on her mind as she lays back to give herself a moment to calm down and think.
57. Spencer, aware that he has hurt his mother very much, tries to think of ways to let her know how sorry he is for saying such mean things to her.
58. It’s hard to think on an empty stomach, so he grabs a bite to eat, ignoring Gwendolyn who has the same idea.
59. Gwendolyn is just as interested in avoiding Spencer as he is in avoiding her, so she decides to go swimming to get the solitude that she is looking for.
60. Gwendolyn enjoys the weightless sensation that swimming provides. Sometimes she wishes that she really is weightless so that she can just fly away.
61. Spencer tries calling his father Sam, but gets his younger half-brother Nicky on the phone instead. Spencer just needs to talk to someone, so he tells Nicky about the fight that he has had with his mother.
67. Gwendolyn feels good about having such a nice cousin in Nakida and looks forward to getting to know her a bit better.
68. Candy joins Mimi at the picnic table outside. “I think I am going to retire,” she announces to Mimi.
69. “If you think that’s best”, is all Mimi says. Deep down, Mimi knows that it probably isn’t in Candy’s best interest, but she doesn’t want to influence Candy’s decision.
70. Candy gets up from the table and calls the office prepared to announce her plans to retire.
71. As soon as the night secretary answers, Candy tells her that she’s changed her mind.
72. Candy decides that retirement may not be the answer to her problems with Spencer. There has to be another way to improve their relationship.
