In this lesson 11th Dec 2013, we learn about “Conformity”. Conformity involves
altering someone’s behaviour in order to fit in with the group. It is important to note that
conformity refers only to change in behaviour, not the underlying beliefs or attitudes.
Miss Pang shows the videos of experiments to show us how “Conformity” works. It is not
really good for “Conformity”. Conformity can occur in the presence of others, or when an
individual is alone. For example, people tend to follow social norms when eating or watching
television, even when alone. The benefits of “Conformity” are there is more powerful and
strong like a team of doctors.

A person with conformity always hesitates while making a decision. This kind of person will
always follow the groups or majority even it is wrong. Most people are conformity, because
conformity brings them comfortable and feel safe. So, Miss Pang decided to do an
experiment when my friend Johnson went to toilet. This works and he follow the majority
answer without hesitate.
Anyhow, I’m nota conformity person as I have made a finaldecision when I have my
own. My strong confident bring me to the next level.

Conformity is normal to be found. In this lesson, I learn that people used to follow
majority and not his or her initial behaviour.

SUBMISSION DATE:
Today, we learn about an interesting topic that is “Attractiveness and Close Relationships”.
Attraction in love, friendship or any relationship is caused by the proximity, familiarity and
similarity. These components can increase liking between each other in a relationship.
Proximity, a hazier psychological concept that accounts for the tendency for
individuals to form interpersonal relations with those who are close by. Familiarity means
repeated exposure of one object while similarity means the pre-acquainted attitudes that
become more attractive. The power of Familiarity is the crucial variable that explains
interpersonal attraction may actually be familiarity.
Besides, we also learn about the state theories of personality. Ms Pang teaches us the
components of social exchange in social psych that are pay-offs, costs and rewards. Ms Pang also
show us a short video clip about relationship. I can state the type of relationship using the Sternberg’s
(1988) Triangle of Love:

Liking + Infatuation = Romantic Love
Infatuation + Empty Love = Fatuous Love
Empty Love + Liking = Companionate Love
In the video, there is one word that get my attention. That is “If there were no men, we won’t
feel hurt then we won’t disappointed, and we would not spending entire night obsessing
about them”. Does men really make them hurt so badly?
