1.THE MEANING OF NOUN 
CLAUSE 
•Noun Clause is dependent clause 
that function as noun (that is, as a 
subject, as a object, or 
complement) whithin a sentence.
2.THE KIND OF NOUN CLAUSE 
a. Statement ( pernyataan ) 
b Question ( pertanyaan ) 
c Request ( permintaan ) 
d Exclamation ( seruan )
A.NOUN CLAUSE AS A 
STATEMENT 
Noun clause that from statement with 
conjuction. The conjuction that used is “that”, it 
means in  (bahwa ) 
Noun clause as a statement can classification 
become to : 
a.1 Subject of a sentence ( subjek dari sebuah 
kalimat ). 
a.2 Subjective Complement ( Pelengkap Subjek ) 
a.3 After anticipatory “it” (setelah “it”) 
a.4 Object of Verb ( Objek dari kata kerja ) 
a.5 Object of preposition ( objek dari kata depan
A.1 SUBJECT OF A SENTENCE 
Subject of a sentence ( subjek dari 
sebuah kalimat ) 
For Example : 
- That He is a handsome man. 
( Bahwa dia adalah seorang pria yang 
tampan ) 
- That the world is round. 
( Bahwa dunia itu berbentuk bulat )
A.2 SUBJECTIVE COMPLEMENT 
Subjective Complement ( pelengkap 
subjek ) 
For example : 
- My feeling is that he is a handsome 
man. 
( perasaan ku bahwa dia adalah 
seorang pria yang tampan). 
- My knowledge is that the world is 
round.
A.3 AFTER ANTICIPATORY “IT” 
The pettern : 
IT + IS + ADJ + Noun Clause 
For Example : 
- It is strange that there are no light on. 
( Aneh Bahwa disana tidak ada lampu 
hidup ) 
- It is obvious that he doesn’t understand 
English.
A.4 OBJECT OF VERB 
Object of Verb ( Objek dari kata kerja ) 
For Example : 
- He say that Mr Joko is ill. 
(Dia mengatakan bahwa Mr Joko sakit) 
- We Know that Ambon is far from 
Yogyakarta. 
(Kami tahu bahwa Ambon jauh dari 
Yogjakarta)
A.5 OBJECT OF PREPOSITION 
Object of Preposition (Objek dari kata 
depan ) 
For example : 
- He think of that English is easy. 
( Dia mengira bahwa bahasa Inggris itu 
mudah ) 
- I found out that there was a book in your 
bag. 
( aku menemukan bahwa ada sebuah buku
A.6 APPOSITION 
Apposition ( Keterangan tambahan) 
For Example : 
-My knowledge that Madura is salt 
island. 
( Pengetahuanku bahwa Madura adalah 
Pulau garam ) 
- His Suggestion that it is forbidden to 
smoke here. 
( sarannya bahwa dilarang merokok di
B. QUESTION 
We can Classification become to : 
1.Yes – No Question 
2.WH – Question
1.YES-NO QUESTION 
Yes – No question is the question only need the answer “yes” 
or “not”. And also use conjuction, include : 
* if = apakah 
* If ....... ( or not ) = apakah ......... ( atau tidak ) 
* Whether = apakah 
* Whether ......... ( or not ) = apakah ........ ( atau tidak ) 
* Whether (or not) .......... = apakah (atau tidak ) 
Example : 
Yes – no question 
- Is andy your friend? ( apakah Andy itu temanmu? ) 
Noun Clause 
- If Andy is your Friend. (apakah Andy itu 
temanmu.)
YES – NO QUESTION (NOUN CLAUSE) 
USED TO : 
1. Subject of a sentence (Subjek dari sebuah kalimat 
) 
For Example : 
# Whether Andy will be here or not is the question. 
Whether ............ ( or not ) 
( apakah Andy akan berada disini atau tidak adalah 
pertanyaan). 
# Whether (or not) she gets the money doesn’t concern 
me.
2. Subjective Complement ( Pelengkap Subjek ) 
For Example : 
# The problem is if Andy will be here or not. 
if ............ ( or not ) 
(permasalahannya adalah apakah Andy akan 
berada disini atau tidak) 
# The question is whether she gets the money. 
Whether 
............... 
(pertanyaannya adalah apakah dia mendapatkan
3.Object Of Verb 
Example : 
# I want to know if Andy will be here or not . 
(Aku ingin tahu apakah Andy akan berada di sini atau 
tidak). 
# Do you know whether she will get money or not? 
(Apakah kamu tahu apakah dia akan mendapatkan uang 
atau tidak? 
4.Object Of Preposition 
Example : 
# We are concerned about If andy will be here or not. 
( kami cemas mengenai apakah Andy berada disini atau 
tidak). 
# They are affraid whether she will jump into the lake. 
(Mereka takut mengenai apakah dia akan meloncat ke

Example : 
# WH Question 
How can you climb up the tree? 
(Bagaimana kamu bisa memanjat pohon 
itu?) 
# Noun clouse 
How you can climb up the tree.

WH QUESTION (NOUN CLOUSE ) 
USED TO 
1.Subject of a sentence ( Subjek dari sebuah kalimat ) 
Example : 
- How he can get here is his own affair. 
(bagaimana dia bisa sampai ke sini adalah urusan dia sendiri 
) 
- Who teaches literature in that university. 
(siapa yang mengajar sastra di universitas itu). 
2.Subjective Complement (Pelengkap subjek ) 
Example : 
- The question is how he can get here. 
(pertanyaanya adalah bagaimana dia bisa sampai kesini) 
-The problem is who teaches literature in that university. 
(Masalahnya adalah siapa yang mengajar sastra di universitas
3. Object of Verb 
Example : 
- I allege how he can get here. 
(saya menyatakan bagaimana dia bisa sampai kesini ) 
- I dont ‘t know who teaches literature in that university. 
( saya tidak tahu siapa yang mengajar sastra di Universitas 
itu) 
4.Object of Preposition 
Example : 
- My Father are concerned about how he can get here. 
(Ayahku cemas mengenai bagaimana dia bisa sampai 
kesini) 
- I think of who teaches literature in that University.
3.REQUEST ( PERMINTAAN) 
For example : 
- My Father suggested that i do my 
homework soon. 
( Ayahku meminta bahwa aku segera 
mengerjakan PR-ku ) 
- His Teacher recommended that James 
take a vacation to Bali. 
(Gurunya merekomendasikan bahwa 
James Memutuskan liburan ke Bali)
4.EXCLAMATION 
For Example : 
1.Exclamation : 
How adorable his daughter is! 
(Benar – benar menggemaskan putrinya!) 
Noun Clause as object of verb: 
I didn’t realize how adorable his daughter 
is. 
( Aku tidak menyadari benar – benar 
menggemaskan putrinya )

( atau tidak ) * Whether = apakah * Whether ......... ( or not ) = apakah ........ ( atau tidak ) * Whether (or not) .......... = apakah (atau tidak ) Example : Yes – no question - Is andy your friend? ( apakah Andy itu temanmu? ) Noun Clause - If Andy is your Friend.
