Jacques Marquette was a French Jesuit priest born in 1637 who explored areas of North America in the late 1600s. He discovered the Mississippi River in 1673 while exploring with Louis Jolliet. Marquette established missions among Native American tribes and explored the Great Lakes region and Mississippi River valley. However, he fell ill with dysentery in 1675 during a trip to establish a mission and died before reaching his destination. Marquette's explorations expanded French territorial claims in North America.

Bay , Wisconsin to establish a mission with the
Indians near Ottawa, Illinois But he became I'll so he
spent the winter in a hut by the Chicago River.

1675: He went to Ignance for medical but died on the
way.
1675: Marquette died because of dysentery on his
way to the Indians to preach there.

river and that impacted us today because if he didn't
discover the Mississippi river then he wouldn't have
a statue.

because he heard rumors about it.
