Seek and Find
To watch our young ones in hot pursuit of
those coveted Easter eggs could almost be equated to
Meriwether Lewis and William Clark in their expedi-
tion of the new Louisiana Purchase. The auditorium
may not be 800,000 square miles of wild terrain, but to
our children it might as well be. The excitement of being the first to discover the Golden egg posi-
tioned on the flood light is a feeling of accomplishment that many of us old folks have forgotten.
To seek something is fun. The potential for hidden treasure is what dreams are made of. Discov-
ery is even better as the dream is realized when that little egg is opened to reveal the sweet treat
within. Yet, not all the eggs are the same. There is only one golden egg, one prize that is better
than all the rest.
“For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them
all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to
you” (Matthew 6:32-33). If we seek first the kingdom of God, we will find the “golden egg” of
truth surround by lesser treasures.
So many settle for a basket full of worldly riches but fail to realize that the golden truth is better
than all the rest. Some say that the golden egg is a myth and that truth is whatever you decide it to
be. This stops the search for so many in life, because what they have found is golden “to them.”
You and I cannot decide what truth is and what truth is not.
“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through me’”(John 14:6). Jesus is not “a truth” but rather the golden truth that we must find.
If we seek Christ, we will find him just like hidden treasure found on an expedition in the audito-
rium. Our children are an example of the excitement and strength that is realized when the truth is
found.
“Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus
Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now
been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according
to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith to the only wise God be
glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen (Romans 16:25-27).
May we continue to point people to the truth that was once hidden, but is now in plain sight. Let
us be the light that points others to seek and find.
P.S. Thank you Jeanette and Gary Cosby for organizing our easter egg hunt and for all who were
involved to make it a great time of fellowship!
