13. How are the Levels for the Five Areas Set?
• Workmanship, Usability and Functionality Level Setting
Guidelines:
– Assessments are rated on a 1 to 5 rating scale
– An average rating of 4 or 5 for the overall
– No one aspect being rated less than 3

13
14. How are the Levels for the Five Areas Set?
• Durability and Life Cycle Level Setting Guidelines
– Target = Top 30%
– Determined by:
• Option 1: Publicly referenced data/studies.
• Option 2: At least two Intertek experts establish a range and consensus on the approximate 30%
level.
• Option 2a: At least two Intertek experts to establish a reasonable consensus on expected product
life. Then the expected product life can be used as the 30% mark. Example: cell phone useful
life.
• Option 3: If option 1 and 2 are not available then at least two other products (from different
manufacturers) should be acquired and tested to compare to the product under test.
– Levels reset each 12 months

14
15. How Does it Work?
• You choose from one to five certification tests
• Pass/fail tests are conducted to each quality and
performance feature
• Each test passed allows you to post results,
testifying to a baseline level of quality for that
product
• To show a further level of differentiation you can
test additional manufacturer’s claims. If
validated they can be described in detail on mark
labeling and POP

The labeling shows what goes into the mark
