2. DO YOU KNOW
THAT VERY
FEW STRAY
DOGS IN
MUMBAI DIE A
NATURAL
DEATH?
Do you want to Die like a
stray Dog under a car or
under a motorbike?
3. • 70% of road accidents are due to driving
indiscipline. Maharashtra ranks 4th in road
mishaps.
• Every year 1.4 Lakh citizens get killed in road
accidents in India and more than 5.5 Lakh get
injured or permanently disabled. 85% of the
people involved are bread-earners, ruining
their entire family
• In India, at some of the places, it is one of the
high ranking cause of deaths after cancer and
cardiovascular diseases. In Mumbai, it is the 8th
major cause of death and may become 5th
major cause by 2030.
• Add to that the Agony of months of
hospitalization, pain, cost, court hearings and
so on. If you see the overall impact, road
accidents are worse than any killer disease
DRIVING
INDISCIPLINE
IS ONE OF
THE TOP
KILLER
DISEASE
How Do WE Stop this ???
4. • Till recently, Mumbai was a disciplined city. - - -
BUT, not anymore
• The Driving Indiscipline is increasing at
Geometric Proportions.
• Today many drivers do not follow traffic lights
if Police are not around. - - -
Unfortunately, even educated ones too do not
follow rules!
• Driving in wrong directions is becoming
common
• Once this indiscipline is accepted, it will be
worse than a Cancer!
• We can not have one Policeman per
car or per bike
SOMEONE
HAS TO TAKE
AN INITIATIVE
Something has to be done to STOP this,
with a proper aim and focused approach
5. • In January 2012, we decided that let us
take an initiative
• We call it our “Personal Social
Responsibility” (PSR)
• Who are we? So far, deliberately, we are a
small group of Citizens of Mumbai.
• We have Scientists, IIT Alumni,
Housewives, Students - - - All common
Citizens
• We researched on various possibilities
• We approached college students, we
tried newspapers, we tried parents.
WE TOOK AN
INITIATIVE
Finally we found that approaching school children
and convincing their parents and teachers through
them is probably the most effective way.
6. • GOI is trying to spread Innovation culture
• We conducted Innovation Workshops in
schools
• We talked about future Innovations in
Science & Technology. In the last 10
minutes, we switched to daily life.
Innovation is not only about Sciences and
Technology but it is important in daily life
too.
• In the last step of the workshop, we also
made them come out with Innovative
ideas to stop Driving Indiscipline.
• AND - - - it worked! Students came out
with so many ingenious ways! That
initiated involvement.
• That finally led to commitment from
students, teachers and parents
• In 2014, we want to scale-up this
successful model and that is where we
need your help.
HOW THIS
SUCCESSFUL
METHOD
WORKED?
7. WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
IN 2014 ?
1. We need your absolute commitment that
when you are driving a four wheeler or riding
a bike, or riding a taxi or rickshaw or when
your chauffer is driving,
1. you will never jump signals and
2. you will never go in wrong direction.
3. You will not keep on cutting lanes
If you are committed to this discipline, half
job is done. Send us an e-mail at
committedpc@gmail.com just for statistics
purpose
2. Forward this mail to at least ten Citizens of
Mumbai
3. Contact at least 3 schools in a year and fix up
a date for our programme there. Write us at
driving.discipline@gmail.com
4. If you yourself can conduct the programme
in schools, it will be a fun! We will give you
training
5. If you have contacts with printed news media
or radio / TV channels, we will collect a large
database of drivers who broke the rules and
ended up in mishap and agony. You can
publish their stories so others learn from it.
6. If you know any dignitaries who can join us
then it will add value to our efforts
7. If you are Social Media savvy, then we need
your one hour per fortnight to spread this
Seven Point Action Plan.
• We do not need too much of your time,
• We do not need any fund-raising or
subscription
• We do not need long meetings and
discussions and paperwork . ALL of us will
review and decide our direction only once in a
quarter through efficient modes of
communication
8. If you do not forward this mail to at least Ten persons, it is likely that
driving discipline in Mumbai is going to worsen. It will be the Killer
Number 1 disease in the decade to come
If you forward this mail to at least Ten persons, it is likely
that few of them will take it seriously and take the 7 actions
listed in slide 7. That will ultimately make our Mumbai
disciplined
Let us focus on our Aim
“We will achieve Perfect Driving Discipline in Mumbai”
Together WE CAN Achieve It.
Let’s get started!
