connect mobile users to related instruction and
information to enhance library orientation and
tours.
QR Code to Video
 Content quality-HD, studio quality audio. Tie the video to
an engaging theme and tie library content to it.
 Caption-Check marketing / disability services offices, free
tools available like YouTube and Universal Sub Titles
 Storage-Online space, needs good connection speed, or
use 2 or more high capacity external drives, usb 2 and up.
 Distribute-Try different QR coders, and different points of
access. Track usage.
 Communication-not everyone has a device, have those
that do share with others, use devices like iPad2 if you
have them, and share those as well, if all fails, show videos
in classroom, let participants us library computers, or
provide a link list of videos and where they relate to tour.

Handheld Tube Tours: Increasing orientation engagement with viral videos and mobile devices

  • 2.  Students live there, content hit close to home  Channels build presence for you content  Distributive-Works from anywhere, on most anything  Physical to virtual, virtual to physical, formal vs folk

  • 4.  Enage users through memes, an “idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to person within a culture (Merriam- Webster, 2003).”
  • 5.  Tie instructional / informational content to cultural symbols.  Example: action figures on a jeopardy style game informing students about the library account tool, and the need to keep accounts secure from hackers.
  • 6.  Connect students to content though…  Online instruction guides  In the classroom  OR ON THE GO!
  • 7. Use QR Codes at library service points to connect mobile users to related instruction and information to enhance library orientation and tours. QR Code to Video
  • 8.  Content quality-HD, studio quality audio. Tie the video to an engaging theme and tie library content to it.  Caption-Check marketing / disability services offices, free tools available like YouTube and Universal Sub Titles  Storage-Online space, needs good connection speed, or use 2 or more high capacity external drives, usb 2 and up.  Distribute-Try different QR coders, and different points of access. Track usage.  Communication-not everyone has a device, have those that do share with others, use devices like iPad2 if you have them, and share those as well, if all fails, show videos in classroom, let participants us library computers, or provide a link list of videos and where they relate to tour.
