LAW MADE THEM A PART
OF THE SLAVE SYSTEM

DESPITE THE
COMPROMISE,
TENSIONS REMAINED
HIGH BECAUSE
NEITHER SIDE GOT
EVERYTHING THAT IT
WANTED.
HOW DID THE NOVEL “UNCLE
TOM'S CABIN” AFFECT THE NORTH

IN 1852 HARRIET BEECHER STOWE
ADDED TO THE GROWING ANTI

“BLACKS WERE NOT CITIZENS AND
HAVE NO RIGHTS WHICH WHITE
MEN HAVE TO RESPECT”.

ALSO THE COURT RULED
CONGRESS HAD NO AUTHORITY TO
LIMIT SLAVERY TO ANY TERRITORY
WHY DID THE REPUBLICAN PARTY
FORM AND WHAT WAS ITS GOAL?

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY WAS

FIRST STATE TO SECEDE. AL, FL, GA,
LA, MS AND TX ALSO LEFT THE
UNION
WHY DID THE SOUTH SECEDE???

THE SOUTH USED THIS
SECTION IN THE DECLARATION
OF INDEPENDENCE AS ONE
REASON TO LEAVE THE UNION,
“IT'S THE RIGHT OF THE
PEOPLE TO ALTER OR TO
ABOLISH A GOVERNMENT THAT
