A. Read about Fred and Liz.
Fred
My favorite day of the week is Wednesday, because I always go out with my friends. We go for a pizza and watch a
movie. I work on weekdays and on the weekend I like to ride my motorbike. My birthday is June 4th which is great
because it’s in the summer. I usually have a barbecue on the beach with my friends.
Liz
My favorite day of the week is Saturday, because it is the start of the weekend. I am always busy during the week and
enjoy relaxing at the weekend on Saturday and Sunday. I am a winter baby; I was born on the 2nd of December. This
year, I am going to visit my friend in France. We are going to go skiing. I am very excited!

A. Read the information about using prepositions with time.
The prepositions in, on, and at are used when talking about time, days, dates, and periods of time.
1. In is used for a period of time: October, winter, my lunch break, 2023.
e.g. I go skiing in winter. I drink coffee in my lunch break. I will go to New Zealand in 2023.
2. On is used for days: Monday, November 16, my birthday, New Year’s Day.
e.g. I study English on Wednesdays. I will have a party on my birthday.
3. At is used for times: 7 pm, noon (12:00 pm).
e.g. I eat breakfast at 8 am. I eat lunch at noon.
B. Complete the text with the correct prepositions.

5. American English vs British English
A. American and British English have different ways of saying a date.  Read the information
and answer the questions.
1. American English
In the USA, the month comes before the day, followed by the year. The 6th day of the month September, in the
year 2019.
e.g. March 23rd or 03/23.
2. British English
In British English, which is the type of English mainly used in Australia and New Zealand, the day is followed by the
month, which is then followed by the year. The 6th day of the month September, in the year 2019.
e.g. 7th October or 07/10. Note: The date is said ‘the 7th of October’.
3. Look at the dates in Fred and Liz’s text. Answer the questions.

Read the information and answer the questions. 1. American English In the USA, the month comes before the day, followed by the year. The 6th day of the month September, in the year 2019. e.g. March 23rd or 03/23. 2. British English In British English, which is the type of English mainly used in Australia and New Zealand, the day is followed by the month, which is then followed by the year.
