1. Junk Food Tax Essay
A "fat tax" or "junk food tax" is a tax placed in fattening foods or drinks. In the early 1980s, fat tax
attention raised suggesting that it possibly could be used to support consumption of healthy
foods. This idea became relevant when a New York Times reported the problem of healthy foods
costing more than junk foods. Junk food should be taxed because it brings down the consumption
of sugary beverages, curves obesity, and encourages people eating habits. To get started, junk food
should be taxed to discourage consumption. On the one hand, some argue that fat tax discourages
consumption of sugary beverages. In 2014, soda tax took effect in Mexico on carbonated drinks,
fruit drinks, added sugar drinks, and sweetened ice teas according to "Soda Sales Fall again in
Mexico's Second Year of Taxation". Public health advocates encouraged this idea and results were
shown to see how much the soda tax had an affect on Mexicans. Sanger–Katz argues that "Studies on
the first year of the tax found that sugary beverage consumption fell substantially, with the biggest
decreases among low–income Mexicans –– the group at highest risk of obesity–related diseases".
Sanger–Katz point is soda tax led to changes in consumer consumptions. This supports the idea that
taxing sodas have beneficial effects that could improve people's health. In addition, taxing junk food
curves obesity. Many countries have adopted fat tax mainly on sugary drinks to take control of
obesity. Studies were done to show

The Quick Solution: Junk Food Studies show that a minimum of 1 in 4 people eat junk food every
single day ("11 Facts About American Eating Habits"). It may appear as a small portion, but in
reality that is almost one billion, seven hundred fifty million individuals who are consuming
processed, fried, and baked foods daily. Even though these foods have no nutritional value and can
lead to different health problems, people would rather eat junk food because of its conveniency and
its way of easing stress. Additionally, due to the popular choice of junk food because of these
reasons, it is common to have developed an addiction to it too quickly, which is another cause of

Compared to ordering from an average restaurant, the waiting time is about 25 minutes per party
("Study Released on Average Restaurant Wait Times"). Just like saving on money, people also
want to save on time. Therefore, they often buy already made or packaged goods that require short
cooking times, or they order from a fast food restaurant. In general, junk food is the quick fix to
being frugal and impatient.
Another cause of junk food over healthy food is due to stress and anxiety. After tireless hours of
work, the human body can feel exhausted and stressed out, these feelings crave junk food.
"Research shows that stress also interferes with hunger hormones, like ghrelin, which controls
your appetite" (Immanuel 1). The weak body is basically asking for energy and is increasing
appetite, therefore it wants high calorie and sugary foods. In addition, when people are under
stress they do not want to add more problems or worries to their lives. In order to reduce this stress,
people tend to put their clean diets on hold and choose to eat for example, a cheeseburger instead of
rice and vegetables for dinner. In the end, they do not think about the consequent of eating unhealthy
that night. The many people who suffer from anxiety use junk food as a self–soother. The taste of
sweet and salty foods can comfort a person, which results in them calming down and being in a
better mood.
Lastly, developing an addiction to junk food is fairly common that one in

It is 9oclock at night, you went to school from 8am to 12pm and then you went to work from 1pm
to 9pm what is the first thing on your mind; cooking, homework, McDonalds or what about just
sleep. This is an average day for me every day and the only thing I think about is getting my shoes
off and just sitting down to relax. I don't feel like standing over a stove or making anything my first
thought is the drive thru for a fast and easy meal. The time is takes to go grocery shopping compared
to sitting in my car and waiting for my food to be handed to me is a big difference. Consider the

In the New York Times article, "Is Junk Food Really Cheaper?" By: Mark Bittman, he describes
some possible meals for $15 or down to $9 for a family of four to six just by buying the non name
brand products or buying the products that are dried instead of canned such as beans. Also he points
out that even the poorest of poor can really afford to eat healthier than to stock up on junk food:
"THE fact is that most people can afford real food. Even the nearly 50 million Americans who are
enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as food stamps) receive
about $5 per person per day, which is far from ideal but enough to survive."(Bittman) If you really
did your research on shopping for food instead of just buying junk food you would really be
surprised at what $5 really could get for you.
A main excuse that people may use for not cooking dinner is they don't have the time to do it. But
in reality when you come home from work and you sit in front of the television for an hour or two,
you could be cooking a simple meal that takes about 20 minutes.
"The real challenge is not "I'm too busy to cook." In 2010 the average American, regardless of
weekly earnings, watched no less than an hour and a half of television per day. The time is
there."(Bittman)
So all in all I see that junk food isn't really cheaper than at home meals and it really isn't that much to

Abstract The purpose of this paper is to show the negative effects of eating a lot of junk food.
There are several negative effects because of eating junk food without having control. There are
three main negative effects which they are getting obesity because of the high amount of sugar and
trans fat in the junk food, having diabetes later on due to the high amount of sugar and artificial
flavors in the junk food, and heart diseases which is the most dangerous negative effect. Lack of
health awareness in the society about the seriousness of junk food and lack of self–control in having
junk food are the main causes of the spread of these negative effects among people. People who are

The article, ''Junk Food Main Cause of Obesity and Diabetes'' (2012), states that ''most of the junk
foods contain very high levels of trans fats, salts and sugar – which inevitably lead to severe ill
health and diseases like obesity and diabetes''. That means junk food contains a high amount of
sugar which is the main reason of having diabetes. In addition to that, the high amount of sugar in
junk food is bad for the body because this kind of sugar is unhealthy and sometimes artificial
which cause diabetes for the person who is not doing exercises. In the article, ''Stop Junk Food
Marketing to Kids'', Mercola (2011) writes, ''Junk food is contributing to skyrocketing rates of
diabetes, high blood pressure, and even strokes''. Apparently, it shows that eating junk food
causes several serious diseases on people such as diabetes and blood pressure which leads to other
diseases in the future for example, heart diseases and difficulty of breath. Therefore, junk food is
considered to be one of the main causes of diabetes because it contains high amount of sugar and
artificial flavors which have bad effects on body. This kind of food is unhealthy because of using
some harmful and artificial flavors which affects the blood badly while in contrast, the natural sugar
in fruits have benefits for the body and make it more healthier. Finally, people have to be sensible

illnesses, and a less healthy society, which means that food manufactures could be placing things
in the food making it very unhealthy and a less living life. Most junk foods now have a lot of
calories which is usually commercially packaged and prepared. Junk food is almost readily
available almost anywhere across this country in all sorts of restaurants in the form of soda,

deaths and chances of becoming obese in consuming lots of it. Firstly, junk food is filled with
empty calories, which means that when consumed it gives extra calories that aren't needed

7. Junk Food Pros And Cons Essay
It has to be said that there really are very little pros if any in respect of any person particularly that
of an athlete who eats junk food on a regular basis although it also comes down to defining junk
foods, as some are far worse than others. However, and whilst I find it a little difficult to make an
argument in respect of pro's and con's of junk food, if there must be a list of any pros then any
calories including those of little nutritional value are most certainly better than no calories. Fast
/ Junk food perhaps also cuts down on preparation time and of course in many cases can be a lot
cheaper. For me this is a relatively poor argument for any serious athlete to come forward with if
they have serious aspirations to perform to their very best in training and competition. With regards
to the negatives of a diet made up of wasted calories, the athlete really needs to consider the effect
this has on performance whilst also trying to meet all essential nutrients by way of ensuring that the

11. Argumentative Essay On Junk Food
Edward Stanley once said, "Those who have no time for healthy eating will sooner or later have
to find time for illness." I concur, junk food is scrumptious. But it should not be the only
groceries that you bite into because it has a harsh impact on you and people around you in the
long run. Other foods besides just sugary and caffeinated items should be consumed because it
hurts others around you, it doesn't fill you up, and it damages your body. Junk food, such as
Coke and Lays potato chips, are delightful indeed, but they pack a punch that is not only harmful
to you, but also to others around you. You have to consider others and not just yourself, because it
devastates the people you love. Your family and friends don't want to see you obese and
miserable. Also, think about this, what would happen if everyone just stopped eating vegetables?
Then, farmers would be out of a occupation and that would increase chances of a large economic
decline for the nation. To add to that, a continual lifestyle of strictly processed, unhealthy food,
will eventually take you to a point where you are unable to work because of the size that you are.
You will most likely draw social security, then receive money from hard working Americans, just
because you made unacceptable eating decisions. Don't be that person. Another downside of eating
junk food is the simple fact that it does not fill you up. Most people would agree that the reason
they eat is because of hunger and want to fill up,

Have you ever went through a breakup or devastating event and went to resolve it by eating junk?
Well, like you many other people resort to eating unhealthy food. However little do you guys
know, every time you eat junk food it is killing you little by little. The food that you are eating is
extremely unhealthy and bad because it is increasing all the risks to dietary diseases and obesity.
Even tho it is so good and taste so delicious they are harming us each bite we take. The delicious
body fattening food is extremely addictive in two ways, physically and mentally. The reason it is
addictive is because every time you eat one of those snacks, your brain starts to crave it when you
don't eat it for a while, so soon after the brain will want it so bad and you will get addicted to it.
When you are addicted and keep eating you will develop health risks and obesity. These risks are
increasing stupendously because of the food being addictive, and because we are not realizing it.
These two addictions can cause many health risks and lead to obesity. The addictions will soon turn
into life styles and these life styles are what you see on television and YouTube and it is sickening
to witness and see.

The world seems to become a more busy place every day, and finding the time to cook/shop for
/eat healthy seems to become more and more difficult. The importance of a healthy diet, however,
can not be overstated; thus, when one looks at the effects of a diet rich in processed or
convenience foods, versus foods that are more wholesome, the effects are clear. Junk food is
generally defined as food items that have little nutritional value beyond providing fat or sugar.
Junk food often contains highly processed ingredients, such as high fructose corn syrup or
excessive amounts of potentially harmful ingredients like salt. People generally eat junk food for
its flavor rather than to meet their daily requirements of vitamins, protein, fiber, or other
essentials" (Gale, "Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection"). Such foods have a negative effect on
many aspects of bodily health. "Two of the leading causes of kidney disease are high blood
pressure and diabetes, which can often be traced to dietary factors." According to Health & Beauty
Close–up, research has found that a healthy diet decreases the risk of multiple health issues. The
Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet is commonly recommended for hypertension
treatment and cardiovascular disease prevention. The DASH diet is high in fruits, vegetables, whole
grains, nuts and legumes, and low–fat dairy products, and low in red and processed meats,
sugar–sweetened beverages, and sodium. It is known to have health benefits for hypertension,
cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, and overall mortality. As research continues to investigate
the effects of junk food on kidney health, it may be beneficial for people with damaged organs to
simply avoid processed foods altogether. An example of the effects of junk food on our bodies is
perfectly exemplified by the people of the Republic of Vanuatu. The Torba islanders, specifically, are

Imagine armed low fat yogurt, granola bars, and trail mixed filled vending machines attacking
schools nationwide to combat against child obesity. Odd, right? Forcing students to narrow down
their choices of snacks because the government says so. It is important for young students to be
able to learn how to make decisions because it is during this phase were the choices they make
began having a long term effect on them later on. If students food choices are being made for them
by the government, how can young adolescents be trusted with mature activities such as driving a
vehicle? Young students are trusted with cars to begin learning the ropes and hopefully become
better drivers and make better choices. Junk food should not be banned in schools because students
are subject to making their own decisions, school vending machines are not the main source of child
obesity, and there are larger issues than vending machines against child obesity. Throughout the day
students are making series of choices in class. Then, during their only break received during school
hours the are forced between the food choices available. According to Jacobs and Carson–Dewitt,
