12. Mahalin Pagkaing Atin is a movement to pay homage to those who
have shaped local cuisine and invite the public to partake in their
local food story.
Inspired by the concept of terroir, the movement recognizes local
food as a reflection of geographical conditions experienced by the
communities, their soil, their culture, the types and quality of their
crops, their ways, and the love and hard work of the local farmers,
cooks, and families who have chosen to sustain their food
traditions.

LOW INCOME FOR LOCAL FARMERS AND COMMUNITIES
Many households that rely on agriculture-related occupations are often income poor; “in 2009, poverty incidence among households headed by farmers, forestry workers and fishermen is 46.2 percent.”
Low farm gate price, limited farmer capital, high cost of production due to high cost of raw materials and medication
UNSUSTAINIBILITY OF EXISTING LIVELIHOOD PROGRAMS
Existing livelihood programs are not sustainable because they rely on revenues from products that have limited potential for repeat purchase
COMMODIFICATION AND ATTRITIONING OF THE HOMEGROWN CATEGORY
Accessibility and prevalence of less expensive import alternatives such as:
Increased volume of imported processed eggs due to smuggling and the Minimum Access Volume (MAV).
Turkish flour is commonly used by community bakers for products sold in provinces due to their lower price
Imported meat products were cheaper than those being locally produced during the initial months of every year
