The document contains a message for a NSCC induction program congratulating newly elected officers. It provides the following advice:
1) As cooperative leaders, they must see themselves as business leaders guiding an important part of the local and national economy.
2) They must navigate the cooperative successfully to ensure its sustainability, by understanding its vision, goals, and implementing policies.
3) Officers should contribute value and not diminish it, acting as builders rather than destroyers facing challenges with confidence from their experiences.

NSCC induction
1. MESSAGE
Induction Program
NSCC Plaza, Caoayan
June 19, 2019
My heartfelt and sincerest congratulations to all the officers elected.
Before my message – I would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to
NSCC for the fruitful learning visit of our 2 CDA Administrators. Thanks to
SACDECO, SHSC and kailian for sharing their stories and projects. They
said the 4 years learning was felt and seen in their 2 day visit of actions,
project visitation and milestones. They were so impressed that they want
to visit again in the future.
May I share some nuggets of wisdom if I may for the new elected officers –
Aside from being a coop leader
1. You are also a business leader and your operating a business model
called cooperative. We are part of the business community which is the
country’s engine for growth. We are in the frontline of action. The
cooperatives are an indispensable and integral part of the local, national to
global economy.
2. Therefore as officers,
2. Be a good navigator who knows how to drive business otherwise you
will be driven out of business. You should have a business sense. Know
your vision, know your goals and contribute to the realization of your vision
by way of formulating the relevant policies to keep your coop sustainable
Take some time to reflect why do we exist? Where we want to go? What is
our Sense of Purpose, Sense of Direction Sense of Mission?
Cooperatives are formed to meet peoples' mutual needs. They are based
on the idea that together, a group of people can achieve goals that none of
them could achieve alone.
Let us also consider that NSCC is large – billionaire cooperative therefore
the governance and management is complex and more specialized and
much different from a micro coop perspective. Officers should be able to
see the big picture and connect the dots. Create meaningful connections.
Practicing empathy to develop an awareness of the challenges and needs
of the organization. Being empathetic doesn’t mean you’re the
organization’s resident therapist. It means you try to understand your
organizational problems by walking in their shoes and seeing things from
their perspective of a member, staff and officers.
3. Be a contributor. Add value to your cooperative and not to diminish
the value of your cooperative. Builder not destroyer. Officers in positions
of power should know the know-how, experience, and confidence required
to tackle to solve big and small problems. Leaders understand that to
tackle the most demanding situations and problems, they need to draw on
everything they have learned in their lives. They want to tap into their full
set of capabilities, interests, experiences, and passions to come up with
solutions. And they don’t want to waste their time in doing nothing.
3. 4. Have a positive attitude. Having a positive attitude is contagious. If
your team is led and surrounded by happy and positive people, they will
work harder and be happier themselves. Positivity can take many forms in
the workplace.
5. Humility is one of the most respected strategic leadership qualities.
Humble leaders admit their mistakes, apologize when necessary, and
always share credit. This behavior makes you more “human” and relatable;
it’s also simply a best practice to empower and reward others instead of
acting like the smartest person in the room (even if you are!).
4. Practice humility not only with other people, but with your planning and
processes. This means recognizing you don’t know everything and some of
the best strategies have flaws. By being open to learning and leaving your
ego at the door, you’re poised to help your organization adapt and improve.
Again: may I reiterate 1, You are a business leader; 2. Be a good
navigator; 3. Be a contributor; 4. Have a positive attitude and 5 practice
humility.
Great wishes and prayers to our newly elected officers. May they be guided
by the grace of the Almighty to lead NSCC into a more prosperous future.
May God grant them the wisdom and the foresights needed to mobilize the
cooperative to remain relevant and is ready to take on greater challenges
ahead
5. Together, let us advance a vibrant economy through collaboration
Let us support the needs of the present and future generations.
Godspeed and congratulations to all.
