Teacher Performance Appraisal
DOMAIN: Commitment to Students, Student Learning
and Professionalism
 The teacher carries out responsibilities in accordance with
established policies and practices in a timely manner.
 The teacher communicates with the students, parents, staff and
public in a professional, constructive and accurate manner

DOMAIN: Assessment and Evaluation Practices
 The teacher provides timely and rich Descriptive Feedback of
student work
# 1 - Meeting Deadlines & Timelines
This includes:
 Maplewood Entries for Progress Report & Report Cards
 Differentiated Instruction Lesson Plans
 Unit Plans & Daily Plans to your CL or Mrs. Ribacoff
 Review Sheets, Tests and Exams to your CL, Mrs.
Lichtenstein, Mrs. Green, Mrs. Ribacoff
 Following up with parents after PTA
& any other information required by the office.
#2 - Adherence to new
Late & Missed Assignment Policy
Tiferes Bais Yaakov has implemented a universal policy to deal
with late and missed assignments:
If an assignment is handed in after the due date established by
the teacher, 2% will be deducted from the mark per school day
up to the ultimate deadline established by the teacher.
If the teacher is not in school on the day the student is handing
in the assignment, the assignment must be placed in the
teacher’s box, dated and signed by the secretary.
Note: Exceptions may be made if a doctor’s note is presented.

 Read your emails after 5:00 pm for
information from the school.

Getting Ready for the Ministry Inspection
February 11, 2014
1. Assessment FOR, AS, OF LEARNING is mandated
2. Conversations and Observations must be recorded
3. Success Criteria must be co-created and posted.
4. There must be evidence of RUBRICS and DESCRIPTIVE
FEEDBACK in student notebooks.
5. The Sage on the Stage cannot to be the only pedagogic
strategy. You must employ co-operative learning and other
Differentiated Instructional Methods of Curriculum
Delivery.
The Inspector will be looking at:
 Long and short term planning
 Unit and Daily Lesson Plans – remember to start
writing Daily Lesson Plans on Mon. January 13th.

 Why we are teaching a particular topic
 How we know that students learned it
 Changes from Assessment & Evaluation to:
 For, As & Of Learning
 70/30 split
 most recent and consistent assessments,
Observations and Conversations.
Teacher & student records
He needs to see evidence from our lessons plans
and students’ notebooks.
Our lesson plans should match student notebooks.

… and he will speak to Students
 He will ask students why they were taught something –
we need to reinforce Success Criteria.
 He wants to see if students have ownership of what
they are being taught, eg. if they have a say in Success
Criteria.
 He may ask students: Why are you learning this? How
are you learning this? How do you know what you
know this?
Student notebooks should contain
 SIS – if never returned, just put in a blank copy from
your subject area
 Success Criteria can be posted or in notebook
 All lesson plan handouts
 Rubrics, marked assignments and tests
Student notebook should reflect lessons in Teacher’s
notebook
Teachers should ensure that student notebooks are in
order before inspection. Meet with several students at
each class to check.

Course Outline
Course Expectations
Copy of your Achievement Chart
Student Information Sheet
Unit Lesson Plan for units taught earlier in the year
Daily Lesson Plan starting this week
Lesson Plans should include:
Learning Goals
Success Criteria
Samples of For, As and Of Learning
Differentiation, where applicable
Examples of Descriptive Feedback (copy of a
student assessment, for example)
 Records of Conversations and Observations
 Rubrics and Rating Scales












#4 - Change your Seating Plan
Get away from the Sage on the Stage by trying different
arrangements in your classroom.
Make sure that there’s room for you to circulate among students.

  • 6. #2 - Adherence to new Late & Missed Assignment Policy Tiferes Bais Yaakov has implemented a universal policy to deal with late and missed assignments: If an assignment is handed in after the due date established by the teacher, 2% will be deducted from the mark per school day up to the ultimate deadline established by the teacher. If the teacher is not in school on the day the student is handing in the assignment, the assignment must be placed in the teacher’s box, dated and signed by the secretary. Note: Exceptions may be made if a doctor’s note is presented.

  • 8. Getting Ready for the Ministry Inspection February 11, 2014 1. Assessment FOR, AS, OF LEARNING is mandated 2. Conversations and Observations must be recorded 3. Success Criteria must be co-created and posted. 4. There must be evidence of RUBRICS and DESCRIPTIVE FEEDBACK in student notebooks. 5. The Sage on the Stage cannot to be the only pedagogic strategy. You must employ co-operative learning and other Differentiated Instructional Methods of Curriculum Delivery.
  • 9. The Inspector will be looking at:  Long and short term planning  Unit and Daily Lesson Plans – remember to start writing Daily Lesson Plans on Mon. January 13th.  Why we are teaching a particular topic  How we know that students learned it  Changes from Assessment & Evaluation to:  For, As & Of Learning  70/30 split  most recent and consistent assessments, Observations and Conversations.
  • 10. Teacher & student records He needs to see evidence from our lessons plans and students’ notebooks. Our lesson plans should match student notebooks. Teacher’s Book Student Binder
  • 11. … and he will speak to Students  He will ask students why they were taught something – we need to reinforce Success Criteria.  He wants to see if students have ownership of what they are being taught, eg. if they have a say in Success Criteria.  He may ask students: Why are you learning this? How are you learning this? How do you know what you know this?

Student notebooks should contain  SIS – if never returned, just put in a blank copy from your subject area  Success Criteria can be posted or in notebook  All lesson plan handouts  Rubrics, marked assignments and tests Student notebook should reflect lessons in Teacher’s notebook Teachers should ensure that student notebooks are in order before inspection. Meet with several students at each class to check.

Teacher Planners should contain Course Outline Course Expectations Copy of your Achievement Chart Student Information Sheet Unit Lesson Plan for units taught earlier in the year Daily Lesson Plan starting this week Lesson Plans should include: Learning Goals Success Criteria Samples of For, As and Of Learning Differentiation, where applicable Examples of Descriptive Feedback (copy of a student assessment, for example)  Records of Conversations and Observations  Rubrics and Rating Scales            
  • 14. #4 - Change your Seating Plan Get away from the Sage on the Stage by trying different arrangements in your classroom. Make sure that there’s room for you to circulate among students. Side-by-side for partner work, eg. think-pair-share Group seating

  • 22. Mrs. Fenner and Mrs. Friedman have given all teachers feedback on their Differentiated Lesson Plans. The last item on the Agenda is to break into groups to share our plans and examples from the differentiated lesson.
