3 reasons Christine Romans likes what she sees in the American jobs market right now:
1. Jobless claims are the lowest since 2000. Last week only 264,000 people filed for unemployment benefits for the first time. In such a big labor market, that's not very many. Claims consistently below 300,000 are a good sign. That means Americans have more job security, and companies need their workers.
2. More people are quitting their jobs. 2.8 million people said "I quit" in March. These quitters are a very good sign. Workers quit their jobs when they feel confident that they can find a better one.
3. Mid- and high-skilled jobs are coming back. According to a new Kansas City Fed study, growth is strong for better-paying jobs. And low-wage jobs are now actually the ones lagging.
